Default 2nd thoughts about late reg.

I've always thought it was stupid to register late (like half hour in or more, not just couple min.) especially if the blinds are so high you only have less than 10 left to start with. But, last night I played in a 2K grntd for 10 dollar buyin, no rebuy or addon. Late reg. lasted an hour, it was a turbo, so at end of late reg, it was level 10. At my table, a guy came in right at the end never had to play a hand before break. He only had 3 or 4 blinds and antes, but of the 200+ registered, only 55 remained, top 27 get pd. He played one hand, got lucky and was in the mix. He ended up with over half of what I had, and got lucky once (A Q out drew J J with all my chips at risk) and had to win a couple 60 40 hands. Now I'm thinking maybe it's not so dumb to reg. at last min and hope to get 1 good hand and you're almost in the money. This was bodog so I don't know how close you are to the money on other sites at end of late reg. but I think the turbo tournaments, it might be better to do it this way, as it 's pretty much shove or fold for a lot of players at that point anyway. I don't know, I still like to play the early rounds, but last night definately made me think. (BTW I finished 8th)

    congrats on the nice finish

Late Registration is a strategy which you described and if you do get lucky to double up early after coming in then you have a nice advantage. I've even watched tables before late registration ended and took notes then bought in.

On most sites you're still a long ways from the money in tournaments that have late reg. that lasts for an hour (usually those tourneys will last upwards of 7hrs.) & for other tournaments with smaller fields the late reg. period is usually only 1 or 2 levels (esp. if turbo).

I think we give up so much EV if we late reg. Sure we can adjust & get it in & hope to double but we miss out on ALOT of the really weak players in early levels when we late reg.
Another thing we miss out on when we late reg. is getting reads on our opponents - ie. even though in later level play we're obviously making adjustments, it'll be the guy who was limping or calling raises with A-rag who will also likely be the guy who is calling shoves light (ie. with A-rag). Tons of other things we can also pick up on (obv) that we can make use of by getting reads on opponents.

The wcoop $1m today at stars had 600 entries at the start but 2 hrs later after late reg there were 1224. Can't understand why players support this unfair practise.

It's akin to playing a 10 man sng then discovering you have 19 to beat.

I don't see what's so 'unfair' about it? I mean the players who are starting out late are at a disadvantage to a degree so I don't actually see it being a big problem?? (personally I think that some of the 'late reg' are way too long and would be better to limit it to something like 30mins. or 'maybe' an hour if it's a really deepstacked tourney with slow blind structure.

The one thing that did bug me about 'late reg' when the sites first came out with it was > for satellites when you reg'd. you know how many entrants would receive the ticket &/or if there was going to be any overlay in the tourney (although even then you'd get a ton of last sec. sign-ups.... as the seconds would tick down a bunch would jump in but was fairly easy to account for). Other than that it never really bothered me.

I prefer the last registeration...gives u a better chance to get back into the tourney if u have been busted out...especially those tournies that dont have the rebuy addon option

that all can be used to say why late reg can be to your advantage too

WOW, now that's pretty crazy. That's almost like multi-accounting (sort of). Can you reg. for the same tourney from the two different sites? (I'm guessing it blocks your IP address from doing so).

I was about to respond to PLAYFUL1's post, wondering "How can you sign up again after you've busted in a LateReg MTT? (Cuz you can't on any sites I play on.. you're out... you're out).
