I won a ticket for a $1k freeroll on bodog from placing in 6 tourneys/SNG's in one week. I played it yesterday. Not once, but twice, someone reraised me all in with a flush draw.
The first time, it was a guy who called a standard raise OOP (I was the raiser, I had A-K this time I think), with K-2s. He flopped a flush draw, and checked. I bet the pot, he had about 900 or 1000 chips, and pushes all in to my pot size bet. I had TPTK, so I called, and I had him covered times 3. He rivers it. Ok, I brush it off.
I get a suited ace later (don't remember kicker), flopped top pair again. check to me, I bet the pot, raise all-in, again... Two suited cards. This time for almost all of my chips. Now, I was very committed at this point, the blinds were getting up there, and there were 3 or 4 seeing the flop. I bet the pot. I was strong. This is when the raise all-in, and I call again. Once again, not even a pair, just a suited Q-J, ALL IN for 2700, with the flush draw. He was not committed, I was. I bet the pot, with the best hand. He rivers the flush. I know a flush draw is right about 1:5 odds. This is a losing play in the long run, unless you are getting at least 6:1 pot odds. He was not getting 6:1. Maybe 2:1, I think. It is just straight gambling. And I usually crush people when they do this.
It was a free tourney, but I was very irritated. Maybe I shouldn't have called. I pretty much had a solid instinct both times that they were chasing a flush. I don't now how you get these "gut feelings", but they are usually correct. The first time, it didn't even really hurt my stack, and I recovered very quickly. The second time, it was the end, I was blinded all in, and beaten by a 9-3o.
Any suggestions? I am not scared to call, or get my money in good. I just hate getting luckboxed. Is this a common thing? Will all of you seasoned players do the same thing? I learned the hard way about pushing all in with flush draws... Many MTT's have ended that way, and I don't do it anymore, unless for reasons that make sense, like already ITM and short stacked, maybe a strong suspicion someone is bluffing, again ITM already. I don't gamble my tourney on a flush draw with no pair or anything. Now, TPTK with nut flush draw, that's a little better. Anyways, advice please??? Thanx and peace.
