Thread: Rebuy's and add ons??

    Default Rebuy's and add ons??

Just curious on some other perspectives on rebuy tourneys.. I dont play them anymore because it just seems like a free for all for the first hour.. two or three people all in on every single hand, usually with junk.. I thought this might just be at lower limits but I played a $30 rebuy and it was the same thing. any thoughts would be appreciated.

IMO re-buys and add-ons are great if you play solid poker. Usually those who buy a lot of them are noobs anyway, so they will drop out after the re-buy period ends and it just means bigger prize pool for the good players. It is also great when you can use a re-buy or two if you get a bad-beat. I never join a re-buy tourney if I can't afford 1-2 re-buys myself, though.

Personally I don't like to play them either, I seems more like a freeroll the way people play in them. My dad plays them all the time and does well. Usually if I play in them I play the ones that limit the number of rebuys. But when I play them I play very tight to try to stick it out until the rebuy time period is over. On poker.com usually you can only rebuy until the first break. So it is like playing two tournaments in one. Before Break/ After Break. Also the donkeys usually get eliminated by break anyway.

If you think rebuys are "great value", you should change you nick to optomist. Many players choose rebuy tournies with a slow blind structure, then sit out for the rebuy period to avoid donks who all in every hand. If you have a bankroll that can sustain 20 rebuys fine, but remember, there are players in these games playing lower than their affodable limits that can out rebuy you.

simply put you need to have a bankroll 40x the rebuy. 4x necessary if needed to buy back or add on and the rest of 40x just so ur not all in on the tourney result. you need to play poker and let others play it as a free rolll

Read the WSOP reports, Daniel Negraenu re bought over 80 times in the 1k rebuy game last year. 40 ain't enuff, always someone there with e bigger wallet. Just so you understand the donk play in these games, he was calling all ins with any old crap as long as he had a face card, J3 Q6 K2 you name it.

    hi all,
great advise here in these post.
    especially, like where encouragement
is offered to re-buy often and add-on whenever
possible. excellent advice. this really raises your probability
of winning. so, don't ever let distracters get in
the way of your re-buying and adding on.....
    keep it up.
    see you at the tables,
    donvic

    PS- i never add-on or re-buy.

Lol you got a point, maybe I should change my nick. ^^ But what I think is that a player who rebuys 20 times in a tourney isn't good enough to win the tournament. Of course it also depends on blind structure, but 1-3 rebuys should be enough. When entering a rebuy tourney, I always count a couple of rebuys and add them to the buy-in. You can play really tight during the rebuy period, looking for a change to double up.

You can also think that rebuy-tournaments are in a way similar to cash games. You can always take more money to the table if you lose. If you do that all the time your game surely isn't going well, but sometimes there's a bad beat.

The reason I no longer play rebuys, is too many times I have I have removed all a players chips more than once for him to rebuy rebuy rebuy, then the same donkey gets lucky late in the tournament and busts me out. The other side of the coin is that I constantly look for VFM, and instead of for eg A $5 game with 2 rebuys and an addon = $20. You are far more likely to find a $20 freezeout with a GTD prize and a reasonable overlay. Far less maniacs too.

I've had some luck at them by playing tight. I will only re-buy if I am taken out early. Otherwise I depend on my skillz to move up. The add-on sometimes if I got a decent stack. Play after the R/A period becomes better, and the great thing is there is usually a very nice prize pool to these.

Also, I play the $2 and $3 R/A's. so it's not that much. Keeping good notes on the donks and their card range Has really helped with each progressive game when it comes to betting against them and isolating.
