I can see what PokerJonny says as being theoretically correct and I have no doubt I’m a very average player. While I was playing a particularly boring game just now my mind was wandering as it does and came up with this completely unscientific bit of fun.

A little challenge for Jonny if you are interested and anyone else that might like to join in, unfortunately being an out of work dole bum who took most of his bankroll offline I can’t join in other than to cheer on.

Jonny, you said earlier in the thread your normal game was $20 SnG, will you record your results in 10 of these games. Also over the same time period play 10 $1 SNG’s of the same style at the same site, post here games played number of cashes and see if you win more of which type.

I know 10 is a very small sample and the results will be statistically skewed by many things but it still sounds like a bit of fun.

As you stated I dont think 10 is a good enough sample, but I will play some €1 SnGs and post my findings here.

FWIW here are some results from my games on IPN Boss network this year:

All are 5 player SnGs (mostly turbo)

€22 buy in 1392games profit of €94
€33 buy in 5337games profit of €266
€55 buy in 854games profit of €435
€109 buy in 35games loss of (€1,335)

I stay away from €100 games!! because the players can be quite good and the variance can be brutal (however 35 games is not a big sample)

Players are generally weaker at €20 and €30 than at €50, but I believe my results are better at €50 because when I play these stakes, i only play a max of 4 tables at once, while when playing €20 and €30 I used to play 6/7 tables - I think this affected the results.

In these games I play the game is all about push/fold bubble play, and good plyers will not make mistakes therefore it is very difficult to make money from these players.

The weaker players (or donks) will make lots of mistakes therefore making it easier to make money.

I will play a sample of $1 or €1 games and highlight mistakes that are made by these players that would not be as common place in a €55 game.

This is a great discussion with a lot of good points on both sides. My current bankroll does not permit me to play in higher stakes games and I look for added money MTT's from this and other forums that I'm a member at. In these games (password protected) I usually see the same group of players and for the most part there are few if any real Donks. I manage to win/cash in my share. When I play in sngo's there I run into more fish in the pond and I do have to adjust my game to stay alive (cash).
