    Default 8.5 cents per hour

Just had to post my most recent success in the Pokerstars freerolls - LOL.

Entered a stud freeroll with 5328 players and placed 47th, winning one of 64 tickets to a $2000 tourney, which turned out to be PL Omaha, not realizing this until I went to register (PL Omaha not my strongest game - actually do not know if I have a strong game - lol)

Out of 7422 entries managed to finish in 514th place - 1260 places paid - for a 60 cent payout.

After figuring it out, it took 4 hours for the 1st tourney and 3 hours for the 2nd, which works out to the figure above. WOW, YIPPEE, WAY TO GO and any other accolades.

Word to the wise (guess I'm not included). Don't play in these freerolls unless you have an awful lot of time to waste or simply enjoy these long drawn out tourneys. Guess I fit both categories because I'm retired and actually did enjoy the stud tourney (my favorite game).

But don't know if I will ever do it again, unless I really need to build up my account at such a fast rate.

A mistake made in the past is not as important as the lesson learned from it.

if you add the time it took you to math out the equation you could be down to just 8 cents an hour lol. there are better ways to build a bankroll of course but if you want stars money and don't want to deposit i see no reason to stop playing if your enjoying yourself. although play is sketchy in them tournys its always good to work on your game strategy.

You must really love poker to play these games. I know you are limited in USA as to which rooms you can play but 5k and 7k entries is really soul destroying unless the prize is huge too.

Hope you play the forum games for real value.

Any tournement on PS which is not turbo can take hours. I played a 90 player sit and go last night and we were playing for nearly 4 hours. Fourtuatly I won it but it was only for $6, 0.25 entry.

The turbos are quicker but not much if you get to the money.

On the freerolls I thought you could use your ticket to register to any of the weekly $2000 games ?

I really have no interest in playing these games with such huge fields unless it was some satellite special to win your entry on a game show with Daniel Negreanu or something special.I don,t think you need to improve your game and further more I don,t think these tournaments are a great barometer of your play since most of the Players play completely recklous in these huge field games. And this is why you see so many Bad Beats posted from Poker Stars.Probably happen so often in games with 7k players.

Default this was my thoughts on freerolls

    hi

I posted my thoughts on freerolls a few months ago - nothing really changed ...

great to dip your toe but very big -EV when you actually put a value on your time

however I also appreciate playing them is also completely free if you really have nothing else to do with your time and dont want to deposit ;-)

more ... Is it really worth playing online poker freerolls ?

    cheers scrawnybob

Well, 8.5 cents /hour is not that bad for a retired man.
IMO, it could be worst, like losing $20/hour, so that even if it's not big money, it's still somekind of a win.

Plus, if i understood you proper, you might be a "dilletant" player with much hour to spend so that poker is the best entertainement.
Maybe, you should try some small BIs for your BR to grow faster.

    Default respect still due BTW

    hi

just to add that I think respect is still due to anyone who has the patience to play through big field freerolls ... seriously its just not something I can do

it might all be for pennies but that doesnt mean the achievement or the determination is any the less

probably more - I would just break too many monitors ... even more -ev

Maybe I should have made the original post in the Humor section.Actually I made the post just to illustrate that going into these freerolls is a waste of time and that trying to build a bankroll via this method is futile (not my reason for entering). The only reason I entered in the first place was to take a break from NLHE and play stud poker. I hardly ever enter these tourneys, but once in a while may feel like playing stud, 8-game, 2-7 triple draw, Razz, or Badugi (just for a change of pace). I spend most of my time in Sit n Gos at Fulltilt, Lock, and Pokerstars, and the 4KP tourneys at Fulltilt, where my bankrolls are OK.

Thanks for the replies, but understand I am fully aware of the ramifications of these freerolls. However, maybe this will give the new players an example in order to understand them better.
