Default Think I May Lose My Love For Poker Soon!!

Yesterday I had the day off work, all my housemates were away for the weekend so I thought I would fire up the laptop and play poker all day. I played 3 MTTs and I made a conscious decision before hand that I would to the best to my ability. So I only played big pockets in early position, and high suited connectors in late position. Raised on the button etc etc etc etc.

After getting outdrawn in the 3hands I had played, I made a big raise on the button with KK and the BB calls which makes for bout 20% of his stack, he/she goes on to win the hand after chasing the 8 to river having called with 7-6 off and chasing the gutshot straight draw eventually put him/her all in.

That was in the first so I got over it and ended busting out having my tens cracked by 8s.

The second game for the first hour I didnt see a hand higher than a-9s but the whole table seemed to be really loose and agressive so i didnt mind, so when i finally get a hand in middle position of AA and the guy to my right goes all-in, which puts me all-in, i call. everyone else folds and he turns over 4-4 and ends up catching the 4clubs on the board for the flush.

the third mtt was just a joke with people going all-in like every other hand with tertiary pair. I ended up cashing in that one but only for like a $1 more than my buy-in simpley by letting them knock themselves out.

I know I played good poker and people will say thats the breaks they come in poker blah blah blah but this type of thing makes me wonder whether i wanna keep playing poker, imagine what it does to new people who play good poker but still end up losing their chips and money like this.

Default Multitable Tournies

hi Dazzler

MTT Multitable Tournies are always going to be frustrating - you won't however well you play be sure to get in the money everytime

Some of the pro's will go through big bare patches where they feel the same way - nothing whoever well they play seems to work - then they hit a good streak

the key is not change good poker for bad just because you see monkey's winning - you will then guarantee to loose

By playing consistently good poker you will eventually win big on maybe one or two MTT's which will cover the 10's of ones you dont win

that is the nature of MTT's

If you want to see a more measurable return from poker on an hourly / daily / weekly basis then stick with SnG's or get into cash games

Personally I really enjoy MTT's but dont have the time to play enough to get the leveling factor and even find out if I've got what it takes - and I know I certainly haven't got the time in order to play enough of them to see how my win rate looks

I would guess you need to play 20ish MTT's over a similar amount of size and prize money to assess if this is a winning proposition for you

I've even cut out playing SnG's because I know that I haven't time to play 10 games and then see how my % looks - MTT's will mean and even higher number of entries / results to see where your at.

I'm now playing only cash games for a while - to get better and also so I can look at an hourly win rate.

hope thats a help - definately dont give up the game - the more time you put in the better you get - so long as that is your goal - there are still plenty of players who dont try to get better - your not one of them ;-)

cheers scrawnybob

Or you should not forget that playing poker should be, first and foremost, for fun. Sure it can cost you money but if you take it too seriously and lose the fun factor, you will definitely lose interest
