who do you think has the advantage playing poker now days, the young and fearless or old(not geriatric) and experienced?
Well, I'm gonna have to say the older folks with experience AND who have kept up with the "New" poker, have the advantage.
Whether they can be patient enough to take advantage of that "advantage" would probably be what gets people in trouble. I know that is usually what does it for me. If I lose my patience, the only thing that helps at that point is luck. lol![]()
I would have to go with older people, although younger people are starting to make a great challenge..Now you did have Joe Cada "the youngest"player in history to win the WSOP..but he did go heads up with an old guy...lol..![]()
To be true i kind of lose some respect for the game.
kids with 18 years old with 1 or 2 months playing and winning big games makes me wonder if any one can win a game on this times.
Not talking about youngs proīs that make a living in it and train, etc, talking about amateur kids in big tourneys that you look them in tv and see it like they still use "pampers" and still can be so lucky to beat experienced players.
I donīt know, a kid of 18 years old how much time can have playing?.
Answering the question, i think that in this momment age donīt matter, just luck.
Suposedly experienced/good players win more in the long term, but i donīt think that a kid that is lucky and win a big game care about if he can win one more time or not, with one time that get lucky and win a big game is enough to get big $.
(not talking about Cada, i mean amateur kids).
Have to agree with Logan. You see people play and make ridiculous plays, but still win. Makes you wonder if experience and knowledge really are worth it. Guess thats why people don't put the time and effort into it, one big lucky win and you think you're great. Wonder if I shouldn't just start playing lottery, doesn't take up as much time.
YIPPPPPPPPPPP PLAYFUL say old is butta... we old folks have theories on our side lol![]()

PEOPLE THAT CHASE STRAIGHTS AND FLUSHES TAKE BUSES![]()
I say the youngsters, because of the whole hit once but hit it hard theory, in other words their reckless style will be good enough to get a decent pay every once and awhile and they could be satisfied with that, hell i would be too, so maybe i will try out the hit it hard style next

I think advantage has more to do with life situation and bankroll rather than skill.
Yes poker has skill, and yes there are odds, and yes some players are a lot better than others, BUT it is still gambling.
Poker, especially the bigger tournaments have a "lightning in a bottle" theory. You can run hot for a good tournament and "hit it big" and then be able to afford to play.
As for Joe Cada, I put him in the same boat as Chris Moneymaker. He played well, he took some chances, he made a couple great plays (that we saw), and he made some horrible plays, sucked out, and kept his tournament life alive. I can think of two times he was all-in way behind, and caught the turn or river.
For big fields, you have to be a very good player, patient at times, aggressive at times, and lucky at times.
As for advantage with age? Not sure there is one, I think hands played is more important. And not just count, but ones where you were comprehending what was going on and learning. So you begin to quickly be able to assess situations.
For example:
You are holding 45
in the BB and there are limpers. You know the table, you get aggressive and pre-flop raise hoping to steal or at least trim the field.
Flop goes A2
3
It is important to know you are a HUGE favorite, but you have not won the hand yet.
How do I know and remember this? Cost me close to $700 in a ring game.
So the guy playing 12 tables and racking up huge hand counts I consider less skilled than a guy single to quad-tabling and understanding and learning the game.
And top top players seem to be middle-aged mainly. Lots of experience under their belt and still very sharp and top mental capacity.
lol. Who is better? The guy who put in more hands is better. Because experience comes from volume. So if a 20 year old has put in 1 million hands since he started playing, 2 years ago he is better than a 40 year old who has played 300k hands in his lifetime (taking they played the same limit).
And lol at people taking old vs. youngsters. Have you seen any EPT, WPT final tables lately?
Barcelona EPT Winner 2009 - Carter Phillips 20 years
Ukraine EPT Winner 2009 - Maxim Lykov 21 years
London EPT Winner 2009- Aaron Gustavson 24 years
Prague EPT Winner 2009- Jan Skampa 23 years
Berlin EPT Winner 2010- Kevin MacPhee 22
Deauville EPT Winner 2010- Jake Cody 21 years
etc, etc.
