Default How would you play it?

Okay your playing a $100 buy in MTT about 120 entries...

Early on... blinds at 100 200, down to 70 players. On a loose table of 10 3rd in chips on the table at around 6-7k you have been playing tight and solid.

Your hand ace king off suit..... 1st position player who you have no observations of, who has 3k raises to 700,

you are in second position what would you do?

Default probably wrong ... but limp in

hi

probably wrong text book wise but I'd be tempted to limp in behind and hope for no more raises and that the button doesn't try to steal

bucket load of callers wouldn't really matter one way or the other playing AK this way as clearly the guy before you is going to do something with his PP on the flop

I would be looking at playing AK very weakly in early position and cut and run if your hand doesn't hit on the flop ... If it does then you have to worry about AA / KK and it could be a crippling hand

that said he could equally and more likely be playing a weaker PP like QQ, JJ, 10 10 most likely wanting to cut down callers to just the blinds

this and implied odds if you hit a hand would probably tempt me to take a punt with 700 hoping to take out a player

tricky one but given you have a solid image then you would be in a position to represent just about anything - on the other hand it's could be safer to just stick with solid positional play and muck it even before the flop.

this is one of the times I would say certainly dont get into a raising war - you could unleash a monster behind you and have to bale or pay for an expensive flop

It feels like a weak move but flat call and see would be my gut instinct

cheers scrawnybob

i agree with scrawny in that position i would just simply call and hope their is no other raise. If you were to reraise at that point i believe you would have to be willing to commit your stack. In most instances ive seen this happen or have done this, the 1st raiser would then reraise you all in. Also with just calling(thinking you would be headsup with the raiser) at least you would have position on him. If you hit the flop and had a good read on him, hes gonna bet into you regardless of the flop and you could trap him nicely
