Default how often do normal people play?

I have four children and unfortunately, I have to work to feed them. I have a hard time not playing in every tournament possible every night. My wife is great, but wants to see me occasionally. I've had no problem giving up poker completely for like a month at a time. But it seems harder for me to only play 2 or 3 times a week. When I'm playing I want to play every night. I'm trying to keep it to poker every third night. Anyone else juggling poker, work, and family. ONly thing is with my every third night plan is on the nights I don't play I'm reading about poker, writing something about poker, or watching poker on the dvr. Any advice.

OK step 1: My name is Dave and I'm a pokerholic.

    Default Petey's Castle....

Well at my castle the wife and kid know that i use poker to relax and forget about work.So they let me play every night from like 5pm when i log on until my tourny is over with , usually like 8:30 or so.Then its TV time with the kid and wife and on the weekends i alternate between poker and our PS3 during the day and up till around 6pm then its family time again.I also mix in some family time during the day on the week ends also

Its just me and the wife, and no kids. So all I needed to do is break down and get the wife extended cable with the HBO package and now I can play poker 24/7 as long as I dont touch that damn cable remote. I knew the staking me on sites was a ploy, now Rob i give you all this money for poker and we cant get extended cable, WELL we have it and I have all the time in the world for poker. NOw if the poker gods would be nice to me, all would be well but really it aint that bad now. It just hard to get the jazz to play and play and play and play but I get it Id say a good 5 hours a day playing and if the tournies are going good, even more.

Dont get me wrong every now and then I do get the, IT would be nice if we could watch a movie together. DAMNIT WOMAN I got you the HBO's now I gotta watch it too LOL

Default hey, who you calling normal?

    what about those beagles?

my kids are grown. i'm retired (then why am i still working?) and divorced(got rid of that dead beat years ago!) but i do take care of my mother. got her pogo.com and cable and weeeeee! i'm free to play.

wouldn't of always been this free though. kids, spouse, and job are a lot of work to juggle for poker time. i'm glad i don't have to do it. i respect (and pity!) the ones that do though.

i would like to play everyday but even i can't manage to do that.

As stated, there is no normal people here...

To tell the truth, i've been through the same problems.
As i have 2 children and my wife don't get back home before 7:30 pm while she usually woke up at 5:30 am, it took me much time to deal with children, cooking and all that stuff. That means i can't afford time to play poker, or i just don't see my half for days...
I done it for a year or so, when i started playing OL poker, but it ruined our familly life and i decided to stop. I now don't play more than 3 nights a week and usually only twice, for usual 3.5 to 5 hours, and i'm pleased with it.
I admit i would play more if work and familly would permit me to, but i can deal with it, knowing i'll get more time when i get older. With experience to come through, i hope i'd be a better player then.

My advice would be, find the balance between your familly duties and your passion for poker nor you will pay your higher rake ever.

I'm not qualified to answer this question.

I know I can't play if I've got other things on the go as I need to be in a good frame of mind, clear of other thoughts & distractions (even though right now I'm playing the 4king Carbon game even though I'm doing some work at the same time.... not much thought needed with these blinds though... it's in...or it's not, lol).
