Ok so I was chatting on PS earlier and some moron was adamant that american players are better than euro players and that americans play better than europeans... I strongly disagree with this, poker is a game of skill and luck of course and maybe the game is a looser in europe but to say european players are worse than americans to me is just absurd.
The guy raised the point that the highest percentage of WSOP winners are American to which I responded that 67% of this years field was American. Surely by the fact that there are so many players Americans SHOULD be doing the best at WSOP in terms of winners especially considering the fact in the early days pretty much ALL players were Americans.
Being from the UK I don't really class myself as European but to me the notion that American players are better is pretty absurd there's just more people that play it over there it's like saying all South American players are better at soccer than Asians for example.... sure there's more big players from South America but is the standard really higher or is it just that by the percentage of people that actually play there will obviously be more stars?

IMO once Americans get out of work, the level of play at all sites goes down. Don't know what that means exactly.

do they have poker tables in mcdonalds in the states.....if so i dont think europeans can fit in 8 hours practice a day to match them so mayb he has a point.


I never forget watching 2 yanks playing poker the guy was devasted lost everything on one hand. he was in tears as the guy across the table took his chips,
his bigmac, supersize fries along with his coke and caramal sundae.

ps - i have no idea how you can differentiate between ability of euro / yanks i would give it a tie

I think you can definitely say that 'generally' the players from some countries are way worse than the avg. ones from others. Good example.. France. French players (especially online) are reknowned for bein' HUGE FISH (Grand Poisson <sp?). Italians are generally real bad too.
Easy way to determine this is by (for online anyways) checking the players on the tables in an MTT on Fulltilt. Sure there are more Americans but look at check out their stats. (& the style of play which obv. results in the terrible stats.). Also, try asking a large sample size of the Top Ranked MTT players (online) and see what the response is.

In the micros my experience has been - Russian players in SNG's are often Very Good, Germans are often quite good too, Brazil - meh.. kind of a mix, but mostly I find they're overly aggress to the point of often bein' mindless/spewy aggression, Americans - you get a wide mix, Italians - usually REALLY BAD (rarely have I even seen a winning micro player from Italy... maybe one or two).

How do I know this? I've played some fairly large sample sizes with a program that displays their stats. from every game they've ever played (on the site they're playing on at the time).. {no it's not Sharkscope < that's illegal. I don't use it, don't have it & wouldn't use it (because it's illegal & it costs money, lol).

As far as live play goes... idk. I have no way of being able to give a decent analysis. As far as online cash game goes... again I have no way of knowing as I don't follow it much.

First i don't think i could be overly patriotic ? WTH?? As far as any 1 nationality being better then others well who knows we all have our good days and our bad ones the only ones i have seen that are consistently bad are the Romanians, and are they really that bad or more annoying then anything ?

I have played with players from all over the world. In my opinion is that U.K. and German players are a class act! I,m an American but don't fell that since i from America I do not have the EGO's as my fellow americans. I will say that Russian players have a very aggressive style and had to change my game to their style of play.

Sure they could play like shit for their first 800 games.. could change & become a winning player (if that's what you're suggesting). BUT that's not what I'm referring to... what I'm saying is > the majority of them suck.. their results show it.

Also I gues I mentioned, "Try asking some of the Top Online MTT players...." because as far as MTT play goes I think they'd be able to give a decent assessment. (whereas JohnnyKnowSFA might not know enough to even know who's good or not).

A point someone mentioned earlier. I don,t consider or classify UK in with the EURO players.Being from Canada are we automatically grouped the same as the US ?
