    Default Advice stolen from BEANFACEKILLA

This is too good to be in a stupid rigged thread

The truth is, real poker for consistent profits, is a bunch of work. We are talking sitting there for hours, days, maybe even weeks, getting cold cards, and getting sucked out. That is the challenge of poker. Having the control and willpower to overcome those bad spells, to profit in the long run. Some people see moneymaker on tv, and think they can do it too.

I have taken the last few weeks really trying to refine my game and in the course of this have realized that bascially still at or below a beginners game. I have been working things such as table image, playing hands right and not playing hands I dont need to be in and just reviewing stuff and even stuff I thought I played good and may have won , I need to be glad people folded around me cause really a lot of plays are beyond atricious (DONT get me wrong every once in a while I play a hand very well but it usually a made hand) most cases I get myself involved in situations I dont know how to handle. I still beat myself up too much when things in Ring games on SNGs dont go like I feel they should go. and when I look back most of the times they are situations I could of remedied if I would of played the hand right from the start. Beginners like me that have read a lot of books and threads get caught up with fancy play syndrome that more often then not gets me in trouble. I could go on and on. I like to think Im better than I was 6 months ago, but I have over looked so basics that I even question that sometimes (not fishing for compliments) Im just in awe the amount of work people have to put in just to become average today. And I can admit sometimes its hard to want to do the work that is required to be a great player maybe 10 years ago it was simplier or just fishier but dang even the places people say are real fishy aint exactly a walk in the park, It hard reviewing hands to even know what you are looking for from your play, other peoples play and all the other stuff involved in hand position, bet sizing, and all that

WELL I just thought that part of beanface's post needed to its own thread. THIS GAME IS SO MUCH INTRICATE HARD AND MIND TAXING then I ever thought when I began. ANd now when people point out stuff to me and I see it happen it other games, it does all seem to make logical sense where before I was like THIS DUDE IS JUST AN ASSHOLE RAISING ON ME AGAIN (well there is a reason he is raising on me everytime, was never used to being beatup in the schoolyard but that happens all the time to in poker LOL)

As far as consistant profits IM HAPPY RIGHT Now for consistant break evens and if I can do that at least my game is than getting consistant

    Dan Abnormal:

Thank you for the kind words about my post. I was just trying to give that dude some advice in that other thread. I am really happy that you thought that was good advice.

I have been away from this forum for a while. I remember now why I spent so much time here before. The people here are the best. Poker is fun. I love to talk about poker, because it makes me a better player.

    Thanx again Dan.

DanAbs, you're obviously far better of a player now than you were 6mos. ago.... think about it, you're asking yourself questions these days that you likely didn't even have the question to ask yourself 6mos. ago (or yrs. ago).
What is it that Doyle says? something like > "NoLimit Holdem is a game you can learn to play in minutes but takes a lifetime to master".

Question here for ya... I see here that you mention that you've read many books. Which ones? And, have you read "Phil Gordon's Little Green Book"? (< I'd HIGHLY reccommend it!!).. & Harrinton On Hold'em, Vol.1 & Vol.2 (tournament play). These books are far from the be all & end all for poker books but they are for sure great books for gaining a strong foundation from which to work from.

(btw,... speaking of 'books'.. my responses on strategy & HH analysis are not taken from 'any book'... they are from countless sources that have resulted in my intuitive process that is always a work in progress)
