    Default just to be clear

    hi

while I applaud anyones efforts to get something sorted for US poker players
and its a crying shame that its taken Black Friday to get poker players in US more pro-active ...

I feel its important for everyone to understand that alot of what is happening now is about business agendas in the US and US govt tax etc NOT player interests

particularly important is to make it clear that FairPlayUSA is NOT a grass roots player advocacy or grassroots poker player organisation as it has tried to make out

it was setup by MGM Caesars and other US casinos to serve their interests and IMHO their interests alone ...

they have tried to make it outwardly appear like the PPA or other at least vaguely player grassroots advocacy groups - but it is not

that in itself should make people wary

if players want to support them thats fine but I strongly feel people should know what / who they are supporting as ultimately their agenda is not the same as players while there may be some overlap

all part of my "be careful what you wish for" rant I'm afraid

    cheers scrawnybob

ps. that isnt to say that ultimately Caesars et al at going to be a bad thing - they are frankly an inevitable thing but its a bit underhand to create FairplayUSA and portray it as something it isnt

the PPA should have got alot more support from US players when it first setup and US players should have fought the UIGEA much sooner and got PPA more effective sooner - but hindsight is a wonderful thing

Personally while not perfect I would back the PPA compaigns at the moment - and give fairplayUSA a wide berth

Default form letter for US players to send their state officials

Re: Please Support My Right to Play Poker on the Internet
    Dear :
The U.S. Congress is considering legislation to license and regulate online poker. As a resident and voter, I urge you to please support these efforts and to recognize the tremendous benefits to consumers and to our state's economy.
As you know, gaming oversight has traditionally been the prerogative of the state governments. The current federal bills (H.R. 2366 and H.R. 1174) honor this and give the states the opportunity to opt out of the federal system. However, I strongly urge you to support allowing my fellow adult citizens and me the opportunity to participate in the regulated marketplace. These bills will create jobs for our state and bring in millions of annual revenue which is being lost today because no federal regulatory system exists. Further, these bills will establish strong consumer protections and give law enforcement the tools it needs to enforce against unlicensed, unregulated operators. Former FBI Director Louis Freeh and former Homeland Security Secretary and Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge say it is time for the U.S. to license and regulate online poker and are supporting federal efforts to do so.
Please keep in mind that, as a poker enthusiast, I encourage a competitive marketplace for Internet poker. I welcome a variety of entities to be eligible for Internet poker licensure, including: tribes, state lotteries, pari-mutuel racing, commercial gaming companies, and others who meet appropriate suitability requirements. By allowing for a competitive market, we can ensure the best consumer product and also ensure the greatest amount of revenue for our state.
If you have not done so already, I urge you to please read H.R. 2366 and H.R. 1174. You will discover that these are great bills for our state.
I respectfully ask for your support.
    Sincerely,
