Default Photo-Id - Is it necessary?

Why do some sites require photo-id and some don't?

I have been using Skrill for deposits and withdrawals for quite a while and have never been asked for photo-id until now. I have made withdrawals at Pokerstars, Fulltilt, and Lock with no problems.

However, when trying to make a withdrawal at Bwin, they say they need photo-id, even after I have answered the security questions. They also reduced my account by the amount requested, so I cannot even play (basically they are holding back my funds). They have not answered my e-mails requesting them to return the funds to my account.

IMO, photo-id does not serve any purpose when they state it proves I am of legal age and that I am really the person who has the account.

Any teenager can open an account using his parent's id and also send a copy of their photo-id, so the problem is not solved.

For me, I consider giving out personal info, such as photo-id, bank info, etc., can be more of a problem in terms of my own private security.

My question is this - are all poker sites now doing this (I know Pokertars doesn't since I have just made a withdrawal with no problem)? Or this only a requirement of certain networks?

If anyone can let me know of any MAC sites where you can deposit and withdraw (using Skrill) without requesting photo-id, it would be appreciated.

    I hope this isn't a typical reply.

Apparently it is after seeing this guy's other typical replies.

I've had to provide photo id at 2 sites to withdraw money but not at PS. Both sites were large amounts but still half of what I drew from Poker stars

Having said that on one site I'd only ever deposited $20 and was drawing out $1000 prehaps they were a bit upset at me profitting.

Most sites will make you send them a fax of your ID (& also a recent utility bill showing your name on the account & proof of your current address). That you haven't had to in the past is just lucky imo.
Some sites make you verify account with ID (& utility bill) just to do player-to-player transfers (Intertops requires verification just to be able to play for more than $20/day... yah.. that's correct.. they put a $20max/day on your account when you first start out on there...which sucks imo).

Although.... you don't always have to show ID. I just pulled off 98% of my Bodog bankroll & didn't have to supply anything. (cashed the cheque yesterday). I'd only ever deposited once on Bodog & was with a MasterCardGiftCard (so there was no proof of ID there either).

Oh... ok. I get it now.
This is actually just a thinly-veiled bragpost by OP here, suggesting he's withdrawling & not depositing on the online pokersites
    (just kidding enno, LOL).

To be honest, I've rarely ever withdrawn $'s from pokersites as I've typically just done player-to-player transfers in the past (LOTS of people in my area who are always looking for $'s on the pokersites... especially FTP when it was around....sigh)
