World Champ - Is There A Better Way To Find One!!

While I am a huge fan of the WSOP main and the fact it lets Joe Nobody (or even HillyTheFish) play world World Champions (in Hillys case Jow Hachem) but with the huge influx of supposed 'amateurs' into the main event is there a better way to find the best of the best.

One way I heard that the people that run the WSOP are considering is to have a Tournement in which all the people that won WSOP bracelets that year play a table and the winner of that table would be known as the World Champ. I think its an interesting idea but I guess with anything there are gonna be a few problems, like what happens when a person wins more than one braclet, would only the hold'em winners go through etc etc. Looking over this years winners I would love to see that table(s) play out though. And see if Jamie Gold is actually as good as he thinks he is when he has to play on table with Phil Hellmuth, Chip Reese, Jeff Madsen etc etc when they are all on a level playing field.

Although with the world's worst law passed recently the amount of American online qualifiers is obviously going to decrease,which may have a affect, although Pokerstars.com would beg to differ with them wanting to send even more people this year. lol.

Any thoughts on how the World's Best should be decided, should it be the Winner of the H.O.R.S.E, should it be the person who cashes the most, or should it stay the same??

I guess with Jamie Gold winning the WSOP main event under a bit of a cloud it kind of shatters the whole anyone can be world champ spirit of the WSOP

Joe Hatcham & Chris Moneymaker have proved to be great icons for the game but Jamie Gold has failed to become part of the same Average Joe made good story that is all part of the WSOP main event allure

I think in terms of really crowning a genuine world champion for a given year the main event isnt the best measure

Then again HORSE events may prove a good all rounder but it's still over one set of games

so your idea of previous wins / places in other events over a year to qualify for a best of the best tournament seems like a good idea

Not sure but the WSOP also have the TOC (tournament of Champions) event which I think is a little bit more like what your suggesting.

The World champ could be done with the Bracelet winners all playing but I would make the field a bit bigger, like all the final tables, so if you had played good enough to get to the final table you should be able to compete for the World Champ. I think that would be still under 400 people with the guys that get into more then one final table. It also should be a free roll, with all the money from TV that Harrahs is making they should give something back.
I think the main event (not the world Champ)should be pot limit, that would take the lucky guy who pushed all in with a straight doesn't get knocked out by the donkey that calls with pocket 2s and gets runner runner 2 2.

guess they could go back to the WSOP roots when the 1st WSOP champion was decided by a vote - not one hand was played - just the best got together and decided who had beat them most in the year etc

I don't think the field should be bigger in any case.
If the people that got to final table lost in that table, they shouldn't be champions. We are talikng here about a championship, so only the winners should get playing on this one.
But what if they won more than 1 bracelet? it doesn't matter, you can play only 1 spot, so every player plays for himself untill he knocked out. there are players short? no problem, you can open a vote (like the reality shows) for all the fans and poker lovers, and they should decide who will get a sit to this one.
