This may seem like a stupid question because all I have ever wanted to do since my first hand of poker (10-8off suit if anyone cares, and yes I do remember it) I hae wated to play in the WSOP, any event would be great but obviously the Main Event would be amazing.
But my point comes from the new breed of internet trained highly skillful players that starting to bring themselves to the forefront. My example for this is Brian Townsend a.k.a sbrugby, possibley one of the best PL Omaha players in the world atm. But what about Sammy Farha I hear the Omaha fans cry!! Well Brian has just beaten Sam out just under $1m heads up. They then played in a four handed game for almost 8hours with Brian, Sam, Antonius and Bobby Baldwin (few others joined to make it more than 4handed but for the majority it was just 4handed). This was in and around the PL Omaha w/rebuy WSOP event.
Brian busted out of the event, but from 7days in Las Vegas playing Omaha he left $1.85million in profit, that after spending $40,000 in the rebuy Omaha event, so with the possibilities of winning this type of money even after busting out of a WSOP event what, apart from the prestige is goin to draw this new type of player to WSOP events. Prestige is all well and good and poker is all about money, and the winner of the above event didnt end up $1,85m in profit and Brian did!!!!
Where I live, the poker shows on TV is every night (3 hours of tv shows 1 after 1).
one of the shows is WSOP 2006 championship.
As far as i know, many people that are playing there are qualifing online.
I remember one show that a woman, took 4th place, and take 30K euro, after invested just 20$ tournament online, at pokerstars.
And in another show, they said this:
"After the joining of the australian players, and younger players, the people that used to be play poker responsibly now have to meet the pushing up of the new agressive players that come, and have to change the way of their play."
So, the prestige of the WSOP will remain, even though a lot of the regular WSOP final tables won't be there... it will have a new life with a new people, and "fresh blood".
P.S:
Aren't we all want to go to the WSOP and started to play poker just for that dream?
For me it was the Aussie Milliones.
i think the top pros dont really care about the WSOP tournametns, because they can make a lot more money playing cash games. Obviously the world series are great for any player that tries to earn some respect for the high stakes players.
If alot of new people play poker, there has to be alot of very good players in the mix.Its just part of the poker craze that started when they put poker on tv all over the place.Sure there are alot of beginners, but they wil get better. And spend money doing it.Really everyone wins. The Pros will get alot helping advertise besides the games. Its a poker boom still.!!! Get in there and take home some money!!!
