Default Possible Cheating Tool?

A quick question for you all. What do you think about poker sites and forums that allow you to enter IM details in your profiles?

I won a MTT last night but at the final table some dude was writing gobblydook in the chat box. When I asked him what he was doing he said he was chatting with a friend on messenger and the applications kept getting mixed up.
Now, I am not very suspicious by nature but he had the same placename as someone else on the table, suggesting they came from the same town. That said, none of their play was suspicious and they weren't real friendly in the chat box.
Are you scared of people cheating by using messenger, or do you think that I am just being paranoid?
I have posted this in some other forums as well but I'd appreciate knowing what you guys here think. You hear so much about cheating that I suppose I am getting worried now.

i play in several places were u can see chat in 5 languages, and guess what? final table and freeroll winners are in the end chating in one language, plus, i sometimes get the feeling im raised then choped by another player, and the initial raiser folds after im pot commited, i wont refer the site, i dont think i should but either way makes me play less in some places and more in others if u know what i mean....

i also imagine if that is done in a freeking 300EUR freeroll how about when there are 10K or even 100K EUR envolved?? im just wondering

hi birds and welcome to 4kingforum.

interesting poll, but what exactctly are you talking about? what kind of cheating are you talking about?

im guessing youre talking about players from same town/friends? who both reached the final table and now are telling each other what cards they have?

a year ago- when i started playing poker, i had a friend i could write to him in icq about my cards and "knowing" his cards- in a freeroll.

i tell you- it was a mess!!!

1- the game is too fast between the hands so it is very difficult also to write and play at the same time.

2-we never met each other in a certain table- not mentioning the "final table"

3-the game requiers concentration. and chatting during it, even if it is on the chat window gets you out of your focus.

really, in the table your talking about it could be but remember that it was only a freeroll and the chance of two ppl who know each other to meet there is like hitting a straight flush on the flop , and even if you kn0ow my cards and i know yours- we still dont know what the oponent has so this whole story is unlikely to happen.

say on pkr...

there is a clown in out thursday freeroll league, who calls hisself - "bonny and clyde", and on his laptop he calls hisself "clyde and bonny" so he has actually 4 hole cards infront of him all the time...

and thats even "better" of the cheating you are talkind about...

but again- he is a clown. and a freeroller. and he wouldnt last a second against more serious people in a real buyin game.

and there, where its real money and not imaginary coins, the people who reach the final table will never ever cheat like that!!! guaranteed!!!!

why? because again, theres personal money involved.... get it?

PLAY ON! play good and let the paranoia out

Default cheating using IM etc

hi all

interesting thread (ignoring the usual everywhere I have played is rigged theories)

IMHO whilst cheating by chatting and commentating each others hands via IM or similar is certain to happen - I agree with jacks

theoretically it should be an advantage but really players who try this should be so outclassed by a half decent ABC +D poker player that they're not goin to gain much

ok - if you have Ivey, Negreanu and Doyle at your table all on IM - your screwed - but if they were at your table with a post-it over their hands your screwed too

the kind of two bit beginner players who are looking for what is only a marginal advantage in cheating like this would be better off getting better at the game

plus as jacks pointed out while you might be getting limited extra information you can be sure asa result they are

a) thinking they own the game more than they actually do - disadvantage

b) not concentrating / getting distracted from much more valuable information at the table that can be legitimately used to win

the only time I can see this would be a big advantage is if they had literally 8 players on a cash table and were just collectively mugging the other 2 players

hope thats a help

cheers scrawnybob

Default me too

This is why I only play tournaments. 200 people or more usually. And I still look for people in the same location. I've seen to much of it, and know two "friends" who brag about it. I spoke to them about the legal aspect, and they have slowed. It's more about integrity. Integrity to the game, yourself as well as other players.
