Default who likes rebuys?

I hate rebuy/add-on games. The first hour of play is difficult if you're not wanting to rebuy. I don't understand playing a $1 game and investing $5. Why not just play a $5 game?

I understand what you mean, I also hate rebuys games but if I have to play them, I would choose one with more than $50 buy in.

Re-Buys are good if you realize that it’s a different facet to a poker game and control the amount you invest.

The most important parts of the re-buy game are, the relationship of the bubble -1 pay cheque to the cost of the re-buy investment related to time.

To Simplfy:- If the Bubble – 1 cheque is 100Euros+ XRB% and the buyin is 10E+1E the re-buy = 10E you can Re buy Statistically 5 times+ 1 ADDON= 60E’s You have invested 71Euros in this game. The re-buy% money is not important to the Question “Is this Game worth playing” to the average player but VERY significant to an Actuary.

The next important consideration is the relationship of the chip leaders stack at the time of the rebuy and the number of Starting Players, any more than 100 Players is going to be a problem assuming that for every 100 plays 18% of the Strongist Starting hands are not going to win the POT.

IMHO: There is NO point playing a Re-Buy Tournament if the INVESTMENT is not in a INVESTMENT relationship of 1:1000+ for 1st place.

So in the game above 71Euros = 7100Euros+ for 1st Place. 1Euro is rougthly 1$

If you are quick you have already realised that WE have Established our INVESTMENT CRITERIA before we have been delt a CARD.

At the moment I am trying to invent a reliable equation for the TIME per 100 players take to play to a conclusion a re-buy tournament on a computer, with a variance of + or – 30 mins.

This is important for other equations in relationship to THE PLAYINGTIME/PROFIT evaluation factor of the question “IS THIS GAME WORTH PLAYING”? However I digress.

CHIP LEADERS STACK:

Now this is very tricky I am under the general Impresstion with a lot of other players that YOU DO NOT RE-BUY if YOUR stack is 65% lower than CHIP DADDIES stack, pre addon/re-buy finish time.

However I have won a 25K$ tournament with $5198 at level 6 and the Chip Daddy had $42,000+ it took me 7 hours and I did wonder at my sanity after the computer tournament finished. The final hand for a point of interest was J8o v J3s both players allin and I held the J8o thinking what the F**k did he called for with j3s. I was very tired so he/she must have been the same and to be honest I didn’t give a sh*t when I pushed allin the 2nd place money was good enough for me and I wanted sleep.

At this moment I have to say DON’T Re-buy if your stack is less than 66% of the Chip Leader ( chip dady) stack, presuming you are all GOOD players and don’t sit there thinking you are only going to play Skalansky group 1 hands and group 2 in your blinds.

Anyway I am getting bored with this script so you Guys must be as well, shutting up for now, good hunting

Default excellent post from Gypsy

hi

just want to add that is an excellent post by Gypsy and alot of really good points covered

this is the kind of thing that really helps members in the forum ;-)

I too am not a big fan of re-buys but I think Gypsy has hit the nail on the head - you need to view them differently and assess if they are worth entering in the first place - that doesnt mean they are a bad investment - just a different investment

I've played some re-buy games live and I have to say they are amazing - what people will play etc (online games from limited experience seem to be the same)

now for example most of them seems to be happy to re-buy at least 3 times (say equivalent of $90) with 100 players starting and a final prize pool of $10,000 (£5,000 GBP)

but the 9th place prize money was only around £100 / $200 so the ones who were making 4+ rebuys ($120) had to finish in the money / 9th just to break even or still be short

the fact that players were happy to do this (total gamblers / fish I think) meant that the quality of the players was generally lower - and the big re-buyers were just really stoking up the prize pool for the more experienced / sensible players to benifit from

if the games had been $90 freezeout - these players although spending the same if not more wouldnt have been so keen to play

crazy logic but worth considering - re-buy games are full of gamblers / dreamers / chancers who will boost up the prize pool for you

just make it through the re-buy period and then it gets better

cheers scrawnybob

Default Okay that is in Euros.. which is cool. Heres what an american does :P

I guess the way I look at rebuys is you are going to enter a tourney where the whole DONKEY nation is going to attend. Now having said that I basically do this with rebuy's. I will play only premium hands and make damn sure I have a great hand after the flop to start picking up chips. An example would be this....If I get AQ suited in diamonds and the flop comes up AQ5 or 3 diamonds on the flop then I will push and tell the donks you want some COME GET SOME. NO seriously I will push because I have a flush and as long as it dont appear that a full house or something bigger is apparent then I would go for it. However if I got AQ and the flop came up 5 3 8 a donkey flop then I say OUTTA here. LOL. The only thing i do in a rebuy is I get the add-on after the first break and go from there. Most of the donks will eliminate themselves after the first hour so the Good players to DONK ratio isnt as high after the 1st break. That is how I play rebuy's you may not like it but you know what you better be damn sure you have a great hand because so many donks will luck out in rebuy's its not funny. Have I gone deep in rebuy's you betcha. I finished in 3rd place in a Full tilt 2.00 rebuy about 3 weeks ago for a 285.00 cash. So it can be done and I only spent 4.25 on the tourney. Some peeps will just go nuts and rebuy left and right. Not my style and if i get beat before the first break I NEVER rebuy. If I dont get off to a good start I dont put my bankroll on the line. Because in a rebuy that is exactly what can happen. Well if you have any more questions or comments let me know.

Rebuys can be good to play, but there are some exceptions and points to be made:

1. You cannot play and should not play a rebuy unless you plan on rebuying 3x. That's my max. I wont go over 3x cause it's rarely worth the money risked vs the amount you can win.

2. If you are a TAG player you must beware that some of the other players will call with lots of draws hoping to get lucky and double through. I have seen some of the worst plays made because of this. However, thats why I suggested 3 rebuys. Once the rebuy period is over, thats when the real game beigns and if you have any decent chip stack and are a good player you should be able to take down most of your table. Chances are if they rebought 3-6x then I doubt they are gonna change their style of play.

3. Dont go outside your bankroll limits to play rebuys. Its very tempting to do so, but can be a huge factor in putting you on tilt because of the style of play.....

wow you guys pretty much summed it up lol. However i have one thing to say about buy-ins. There will always be that one,two maybe even three fools who go all in and rebuy but isnt that a good thing? they are just more fuel to your fire lol... if they lose 3x doesn't that tell you something...thats just more chips for you to pick up. and if you dont want to play buy-ins and are complaining about it why not just play a $1 non buy-in tourney? instead of telling them to go enter a $5 game...

I do not like re-buys, it may build the pot, or be adding more dead money to a pot, but even bad players get lucky, if you give them enough chances. Also people play like fools when they get short stacked, all the sudden its an all in fest with people knowing they can get busted and come back.
