If your opponent raises 4,5,6 x BB pre flop and you call lets say with2 3 or 7 2 or the like and most people say you are a donk; Then as we have seen players like Gus Hansen(who does go in with anything) make thae same sort of play. Does that make him a donk or just like the rest of us a player who is capable of making donkey play?

yeah but what pros are we talking here about? because if we are talking about the wsop/aussie/wpt pros on television, then i would also say "great call".
because on television it is always the final table, besides - the hands are edited, so they dont show you how many of these calls actually missed the board and were approved as donkey calls.
i think it takes guts, to call and gamble in the final table when so much money in prizes is on the line - but that is also the reason they do make those calls/moves since a very big sum is already guaranteed and to bust an AK, you dont have to wait for aces. if that was the case, the game would be endless.

one thing i know for sure - Hansen is not a donk
Agreed with Jacks definitely on all that he mentioned, and especially the last part, one Mr.Gus Hansen is defiitely not a donk.I dont know what games you've seen of him where he didnt make at least a few great calls, bluffs, and laydowns. It seems every tournament I watch he does very well in.Or is that just my imagination??? Nope dont believe so he cashed in a ton of tourneys in 2007
I personally hate being called a donkey... example hand
I had 6-4 off in a league game where the blinds were 25-50 and stacks were 5,000. I limped for fifty and called 200 more when five other people also did. I got smacked with the nut straight on the flop and a girl bet her pocket queens, got folded around to me and I made a massive "get out right now overbet of 2500. She calls, next card's a blank and I go all in, she calls with her queens, and loses. She berates me as a donkey and the scourge of poker... she called off all her stack with one pair I tell her, in the face of my massive bet knowing I'm a tight player. I stop going for a month because of this, because it's not fun anymore... and since, I hate the word donkey. Nice vent, me.
i play pretty tight so most of the time i'm the one getting donked around, but if i do get called one i just laugh it off because i know i'm better than 95% of the donks in those cheaper tourneys hehe
Let me tell you what a donkey is:A donkey is the guy who calls a raise and a reraise with 7 high.A donkey is a guy who goes all in preflop every hand.A donkey is a guy who goes all in on SB with aces to steal BB's 20 chips!!!A donkey is the guy who calls you a donkey when you loose preflop with AA.A donkey is the guy who fishes in a glass and catches the whale.A donkey is a bored low limit pro.If any of these might ring a bell to you....You've got the big ears.I wish you to get ran over by a train full of gold.
I think people have taken the (donkey) phrase way outta line. People these days will call you that for each and every hand they lose to you, because it's the only way to back up their loss in chips. I agree when someone has something like 7 high, and on the turn someone pushes allin, and they call hoping to hit a straight or trips with only one card left to show (the river) that they have donkey in their blood. But if someone simply calls with 7-8 high preflop and hits something that may be valuable and ends up taking out your pocket q's or k's.....that's poker. I get alot of mixed signals on the felts from being called a donkey to people crediting my play and giving respect. In conclusion, i'd say who cares what others think, it's all about the money nd in the end, the one who has the money is the winner, regardless.
