Not sure as to everyone's age here on this site, but was wondering if anyone thinks age can be a help or a hindrance? Obviously most of the pros I see on tv are a little bit older, having had time to build up their expertise, but I also notice that some of the younger people in the tournaments seem to single them out for extra bs talk. Anyone else notice this?
well I'm 48 young and I certainly haven't got worse from playing longer and older. I think alot of the young players especially the Swedes are gona burn out - too aggressive
I think they see some older guy and think they can run over them - suits me I've got my own old school moves.
The again I guess when you get really old you've got to be slower than you were - but look at Brunson the guy is still chewing them up an spitting em out
i was taught poker by my pro-gambling uncle when i was seven.
i find i get tighter as i get older. It's not a flashy way to play, but gets the job done. I don't come in 1st very often, but i place in the money alot.
i find young players are bigger risk takers, as the young are in all areas, not just poker.
Obviously age is a huge factor. I think the more you play the more you learn and hopefully the better you get. However there are still donks who dont learn a dam thing and those are the one's who keep paying us off!

I'm still young and do you think that at the age of between 60 - 75 we'll all be better than now? That's the question
Thats hard to say. I guess it would depend on the mental and physical condition we are in at that age. If we to senile to play then we wont be better. Id say a poker player gets into their prime prolly between 30-40 and can play good poker till 60'ish...........

Just to add some things to these "young guns" thread...
1) As you get older, you realize your health plays an important part;
a) Sleep -- I don't get [nor do any of the >30 players I know] the young guns that think it's cool, or that they play better without sleep -- they do the 24-48 hour stretches. I find that sleep is key; mentally alert is key -- this is esp true for brick & mortar [b&m] casinos.
b) exercise --- it does the body good.. I'm not an exercise freak...but a simple 45 minute workout 3x a week... gets you away from your play...clears the head & just makes you feel better
2) aggressiveness -- definitely seems to be a younger trait -- I'm 41 young [look 30 tho]; and patience with hands -- understanding A8 isnt a great hand [and why it's not & when it could be]
3) going to call this next one cockiness...but it's a bit of arrogance, cockiness, think-i-wont-live-past-25 [and if they do, they're old] -- i find young players size up people way too quick...
now in fairness "older" players think they aren't given the respect they deserve -- personally their play gets my respect, not their age.
Just some thoughts from a 41 year young b&m poker player
