to "honestly" pick a country that the "best" players come from would be rediculous... there are great players from all over the world...you can kid yourself by picking your own country but that is a bias opinion

P.S: BAZZY... i would like you to tell us what makes u say that...other than you are from there

Default gota have some home ground loyalty

hi

I think everyone is going to have some home ground loyalty ... and we'd all be guilty of that so I cant see anyone taking offence - bit like team sports even if your local team suck the locals would back them ;-)

I think alot of it is about generalisations and stereo types - like the whole scandanivian stereo type of loose aggressive play - I'm sure there are players who dont fit that mold

If as a player you make generalisations on County as to how they will play well or badly or in a certain style it might not be too accurate

but I think you can to a degree look at countries who have less of a history of poker and see them is immature players (in terms of general experience) but that can be misleading

I know like the US and to a degree the Irish have a long long history or poker and gambling generally so you might be able to say it's "more in the culture" and therefore they are going to be more experienced as they have had more exposure to the game

the Irish certainly have breed more than their fair share of good poker players (and alot say on their home turf so dont see the limelight)

interesting thread

cheers scrawnybob

I think that the country where a player is from isn't important in poker.
Isn't important his religion or his race either.
Maybe his age, because intelectual process can be affected by that, but more older a player is more experienced too.
I agree with scrawnybob about that some countries have gambling embedded in their culture.
But today with internet, cable TV, etc, any player in any country can be a good player.
A good example that things embedded in culture that makes good players is per example soccer.
You can find good soccer players in my country: Uruguay playing in the most important world leagues. My country have a little more than 3M people here.
You cannot find good players from New Zealand (just as example), because his favourite sport is rugby, so if a New Zealand child wanna play competitive soccer he won't find it there in New Zealand.
You can form a good soccer player here in Uruguay, you cannot in New Zealand.
But if we talk about poker, I think that our globalized world can help to anybody to reach his goal.
Sorry about my english.
