Hi All I not been around a lot I have been researching my new book, anyway while I been researching my new book I had a wee think about Intelligent Poker Investments.
My mussing is this, The computer is dead long live, LIVE' play, OK so let me explain a little, I decided to close ALL my on-line poker accounts I did not like some of the trends developing in the net game, and was looking for some thing more plausible for my poker investment general fund.
My PGIF ( poker general investment fund ) An investment fund roughly 25% of my total Poker BankRoll was basically used for computer poker in 3 sites originally and ended up as 7 sites.
After a lot of deliberation and mathematical calculations I have come up with
GENTING STANLY LIVE CARD ROOMS.
So every night at 26 different card rooms though out the UK you can get a game of poker to suit all pockets and it will be under £50.
Not only can you play some sort of holdem tournament but there are plenty of cash games either holdem, Omaha, or dealers choice, with very reasonable buy ins VERY SWEET DEAL.
Add into this equation free buffet on certain nights double and treble stack tournaments with £1000.00 added via the management £100 buy-ins and I think we are starting to talk some sensible poker for the Pro who can play a percentage game!!! Add to this a meal and a drink, Live football games, Its a Winner
Anyway my current advise is:- Get out of the house more, Get to the Local Stanley Casino, and Get with the “IN CROWD” playing LIVE POKER! Dump computer poker for the time being and ENJOY
good Luck in the Swamp
The Gypsy
NB* Genting Stanley do NOT employ or sponsor me Me in anyway! Iam an independent Poker Pro.
Please also note Gentings also operate a no hoddy or baseball cap policy on the Gaming floor, but allow the above in the CARD ROOM!
As Usual a most interesting "Take" on things by you Gypsy, I must admit I have been missing your post, well after all that I would like to ask a question I have been going to my local gentings for a few months and I wonder why a "dealers choice" games seem to be so very popular? Any ideas Gypsy?
great to have you back - blimey missed those posts - great for getting eveyone thinking so I hope you keep them up even if its general poker game theory and strategy I think that would still be useful for online play too
I know what you mean - I dont think that online players should exclude the live game world
but I have to admit I love both and dont get to do enough of either - had a nice home game the other day and I must get to more live tournaments - I think Birmingham / Walsall Grovesnor is ok as its easy for me to get to but definately want to get up to Dusk Til Dawn this year
and must try to qualify for some live games online and just get time to play more generally again
anyway - looking forward to your latest thoughts on anything poker ;-)
cheers scrawnybob
ps. we should try to fix a meet up for our UK members we must have a few by now who would be up for a sociable game - I'm sure I could get DTD to book us a table or something

Hi Cracker this is actually this dealers choice question is very interesting, Over the last month or so I been to 5 different Gentings Casinos and noticed the same thing, The reason is this:-
In most of the clubs its local players enjoying a game with friends they have made in that club, If they play “dealers Choice” games they stop the walk in Pro playing with a massive cash stack! How?
Well a massive stack can just re-buy after a allin, So if we are playing a game of holdem, the minimum buy in is say £50 but with NO upper limit buy-in I could buy-in with say £2k so...Say I have a stack of 2K and AQs in my hand another player has a stack of £100 ( he brought in for 50 and played a couple of hours made him self £50)
I could buy the pot by going allin with 2K and bingo I have great odds to win and take the Guys £100 and pick up some loose calls in that pot.
If we only play holdem in “our” game the small stacks are in trouble! Yes/no??? YES!
So to counter act this people play dealers choice, simple as that. Only the harden Pro is going to play Holdem,Omaha,Stud, plus a few local variants of tho’s games.....
I even saw a table have a game of 4 card brag in the northwest WOW Brag is alive and well in Manchester ( I love 13 card Brag)

Reason: revise a non english language script to an English Language script (at a) ! sorry got very sloppy
I'd say it's important for any online player to get out there and play live poker.
If you're the kind of person who sits at the computer for hours on end playing endless hands, not only is it mentally, physicall and socially unhealthy, but it's also going to have a detremental effect on your play as you lose focus.
Heading down to the local cardroom is a great way to break up the time whilst still improving your play. It's also a nice way to meet like minded people and measure how far you're actually coming in the world of poker.
Btw, I'm not so sure what you all mean by 'dealers choice', does that simply mean the dealer gets to decide the game, and players have no say?
Well after missing the totally obvious re dealers choice games, Gypsy how do you make money then in a card room run by Stanleys? (I am a little confused at some of your previous recommendations) Also do YOU recommend paying for a Stanleys dealer ie 4 or 5 pounds per player per hour? Thank You in advance~~~~~~Cracker
Just play rock solid poker, dont be too greedy and watch what every player does, and strike when you have the right moment
Yes I would/Do pay for a dealer when theres one available.
Btw, I'm not so sure what you all mean by 'dealers choice', does that simply mean the dealer gets to decide the game, and players have no say?~~~~~Robofish
Yes exactly right, although you may get an argument if you chose Maltese Cross with wild 8's evey time
great to have you back gypsy - and definately need to sort out a meet up sometime
I think some may have crossed wires in terms of "dealers choice" - that doesnt mean the nice guy who sits there in the tux dealing for all of you picks the games
it means as the dealer button comes round the player on the dealer button gets to choose the game -
In serious home games this can indeed lead to calling for very random local games of choice - but I'm guessing in the gentings stanley they are working within some realms of known poker variations ?? over to you gypsy
cheers scrawnybob
