You! Yes YOU, Know how to play poker, You been playing for a long while, Years.
You Love the game to point you dream about poker, before you go
to sleep think through every hand you played that day in that live tournament. You know tricks that most people don’t even know exist, If you deal you would be shot dead!
You read every day something about poker, its madness, you even start an office game in the lunch hour, Man you are total addicted!
You start to get to the point where if someone tells you something at work, while they are telling you, YOU are thinking:- Is this Bastard BLUFFING me and should I reraise????
DUDE the conversation is NOTHING to do with poker!
But YOU still see Diamonds, Clubs, Spades, Hearts.
You play live poker every day, You write about poker, you read about poker, It’s not a money thing you don’t care about money, You go on holiday and the first thing to sort out is where is the card room? You go to Gamblers anonymous’s web site, read it all and guess what...ROFLOL you end up writing a script correcting some guy on pot odds in poker!!!!
What do you do NOW?
PLAY MORE POKER?
Any one with a more constructive idea please tell
Over to the floor,

OBTW: I once went to group Therapy and I ended up making a set of cards! a very fine bit of art work........
are you happy / are you making anyone else unhappy
hi
I would say that it's very common for people outside of poker to have a very slanted idea of what poker players and poker is all about
ie. they think we are all without exception degenerate addicted gamblers
personally I find this offensive in the extreme - we dont accuse golfers of being degenerate addicted people who walk round a field all weekend while not spending time with their family etc
nor do the rest of the population criticise fisherman for sitting by a river for hours on end
yet the vast majority of rec poker players - (who are generally marginal net losing players) dont loose anything like the cost of annual golf club membership + new clubs every 5 minutes
also people have a very odd idea of risk - because the risk element in poker is very tangable they seem to think they dont gamble themselves - yet everyone who has car insurance, some stocks and shares, a sickness / injury policy, a lottery ticket or a pension ...
is gambling - they just dont like to admit it
anyway I digress - I think the important thing is to ask yourself ...
am I actually happy spending my time playing poker ?
am I making anyone else unhappy ? ie. who I am responsible for / with / family etc
am I consistently winning or consistently losing ?
I am not a big fan of the nanny state - people should be free to make their own mistakes and equally not blame others which includes being responsible about gambling
but if your winning / your not upsetting family / its not affecting your commitments then I really think that playing alot should not be defined as an addiction
do people brand serial golfers or all weekend fisherman addicted ? no
if you enjoy it and your happy and your not hurting anyone - then just enjoy it
if it has become unhealthy for your relationships or bank balance etc - then seek help
or more importantly stop yourself if its taking over and you need to control it
cheers scrawnybob

As usual Bob has come up TRUMPS and has got the prospective on this issue! TOP POST

WOW! urmm Gypsy You are always trying to make "US" think, and BOB always gives us the answers to say to the wife!
You 2 are the "Hinge and Brackett" of the poker forums
This is an OUT STANDING FORUM.
If you are NOT hurting your self or any one else, I can not see anything wrong with a game of poker. The thing is tho, People do hurt others with there gambling. I think gypsy is a little
"Ennui" So Please gypsy dont be blase', over the work of GA it does a fine job.
while I stand by my views that non poker players have a very wrong headed view of the actual realities of poker players
by the way the figures used by responsible anti gambling organisations acknowledge that poker in its self is not the biggest of the "problems" as its more slots and combination gamblers that are the addicted
anyway I whole hearted support the work of GA and other similar organisations - that's why since day one this site has a link to GA at the bottom of every page of the main site
although I dont like people blaming anyone but themselves for things when its realistically their own decisions - in the same way I dont have much time for all these "where there is a blame there is a claim" adverts - when the reality of alot of them is they should have used common sense - BTW I know people can site any number of legitimate claims also but we have moved into a culture of not taking responsibility for our own actions - which IMHO is unhealthy
I have covered this before somewhere in the poker blog
but I think when you have multi millionairs suing bookmakers for letting them gamble - personally I have to think ... I you were clever enough to make a million and then choose to pi** it away on betting - then you cant blame anyone but yourself
poker remains the only gambling game that has a skill advantage which to me makes it no different to other sportmen betting on their own personal ability to beat the opposition
the issue is when what you do starts to effect other people - but equally most career minded people are unhealthily "addicted" to work - it woudl be interesting to see how many would ban work / overtime because that breaks up so many homes
cheers scrawnybob

Lawyer My Dear Chap,
Please do not ever take my sardonic wit for "l'ennui" I can assure you, that I do not take the work of Gamblers Anonymous lightly! Nor does anyone
else in this forum, Bob takes great care to post there web site up in the first few pages of this site.
I am a member of this site and have nothing to do with the running of the site. I have NO fiscal interest in this site.
Now may I also point out at this stage of "our little chat" That I have been involved in the "Gaming" industry for 40 years, since I was a "runner" as a boy on the horse race track, So I feel much more equiped to comment on Gambling than "Vous"
However I did start this thread and obviously relish a debate on this subject, so if I can be of further help to you on this subject or any other subject in relation to Gambling or Gaming just ask.
Im not going to comment , cause im a addict , lol i would make the matters worse , not give any good advice and leave you all demasticated ( ? ) , and then you'll feel so bad you'll want to head over to the casino and play more cards just to chear yourself up, losing every pot doesnt matter , you just want to get hold of those cards and play the game , ooops i better stop before i get into your mind .
You know what chears me up when im feeling ****** , That's right Rolled up aces over kings , check raising , stupid toerist and taking huge pots of them , stacks and towers of chips i cant even see over , playing all night high limit hold em at the *** .
Now your thinking.
**** It lets go, lets play some **** Cards.
