Thanks for the nice words and I am glad you like my avatar.
And most of all thx for putting the link to the Marcel Luske video in your post.
ALL MEMBERS MOST CHECK IT!
(sorry a little bit promotion for one of the best dutch players )
He is one of the reasons I start playing poker. I saw him playing when I was a the casino in Amsterdam and I have looked at his play almost the whole night. It's so much fun.
But enough about Marcel Luske. Bob keep up the good work and I have a lot of respect to all the effort you put in. (oh and sorry about my bad english, just blame my school )
Oblivious

Hi Kingjames,
What do you think I am fishing for?
It depends on what I am doing.
On the pokertable I am fishing for the fish (for their chips)
And in real life I am fishing for nice girls.

You would think that a real lawyer would know how to spell prima facie and co-respondent.

This posting really caught my attention. I simply do not believe in getting something for nothing. One of the main reasons I joined a forum is to improve my game. I have been a faithful member of Full Tilt for quite some time and most recently I was in one of those Poker After Dark freerolls. I made it to the final two table after quite some time and at some point some other guy that was playing told me to simply give it up. After asking why, he replied, because I've been watching you, and you simply have no skill...
This really caught my attention because I have been a serious player for about 10 years. I was cleaning up house games during the poker boom, because I considered myself a poker player, but never at the professional level. I always read advice columns and ask for advice as well, seldomly getting any from the several forums I am a member of. The point is, when forums like this one post passwords for freerolls, that in its own is a great opportunity to improve your skills, however, I see your point of weeding out people that are not going to take membership seriously. I have seen it at other forums as well. I sincerely hope to contribute and at the same time, learn and improve my game. Until then, see you on the felt...
thanks for everyone's positive posts - It's great to see that we are getting more and more members who care about the forum and we are coming together as an open, active & co-operative forum
"freeroll whores" - different definitions
yes I agree the use of the phrase "freeroll whore" is maybe a bit misleading as it does mean different things to different people ...
so the problem is only - Members giving out passwords to other people / publishing them at other sites or blogs or generally not respecting the fact that the password is ONLY for their use and no one else - They are maybe more appropriately termed "password sharers"
we dont like people sharing our passwords - and I dont much like people who share other sites passwords (hence the fact that we do not allow any other sites private passwords to be posted here)
however
I have absolutly no problem with what some may term "password whoring" if by that you mean playing as many freerolls as you possibly can ... within the rules of any sites that maybe running them
ie. I dont see any problem with people being a member of 10 ... 20 ... 100 forums and wanting to play in their games ... so long as your a legitmate member of all those sites and have obtained their passwords entirely within their rules
so I guess its a case of teminology - bottom line ...
breaking any sites rules / giving out passwords / using passwords you shouldnt ... bad
joining lots of sites and following their rules to play their games ... good
copyright in passwords
lol we'll I'm pretty sure you cant copyright a string on numbers (ie a password) unless its a discovery of some formula / science etc - anyway I know US copyright law is different to UK law but
As a photographer for around 18yrs I'm pretty well versed in copyright law
Copyright theft of the internet is rampant - theft that is of clearly copyrighted material eg. articles / images etc but certainly in UK copyright law I do not have to display a copyright symbol for it to be protected under copyright law - any use of material that isnt yours without permission from the copyright owner / creator / author is a breach of copyright period and the author is under no obligiation to tell people they own the material ...
the obligation is on the person wanting to use something they didnt creat to seek out the copyright owner - if they cant that does not mean they can use it anyway
the current issues surrounding "ophaned works" in US copyright law is an absolute disgrace and will ruin alot of creatives businesses and livelihoods - where everyone will think and get others work for free
anyway back to the password think - I really think that given that protecting my own photography / copyright law over the years has proved less than effective against theft I wouldnt expect it to be effective on a password (my photography is far more valuable)
in UK law you can only gain the value of the infringment and NOT damages (US law is different) but I very much doubt under any legal system they would put much value on a password - you dont see microsoft persuing pirates on the basis of giving out a password - its on the sharing of the copyrighted software itself
anyway - bit of a pointless suggestion to just get a legal angle in afaiks
cheers scrawnybob

The only sure way to beat the "whores" is pre -registration where you send the site a list of players who are then auto reg'd by the site ...........but I guess this takes a lot of work for the forum boss and the sites prolly wouldn't want the work just for a freeroll

IMHO that was really low class from that person's part. Was his name in red, meaning that he was a pro and someone hired by FTP? If yes, I believe he is wrong and his chat to be berating, and you could report him to the moderators as this is bad for their business.
I do not know your play, but I can presume you have, like every player, some key weaknesses. But skill is not the same thing as talent. A skill may be worked upon for years and improved to a master level, and someone who has trained for years can be reliably as much strong, if not stronger, than another player relying on his or her natural talent with mediocre skills, especially in a game without clear best players as in poker. Sure, there are players who are little Bobby Fischers or Phil Hellmuths, with a natural talent for the game. But this certainly does not ensure a successful career if he is not dedicated. For instance Phil Hellmuth might be a killer in tournament, but in cash games he has shown that he is NOT one of the top players.
So the best is to practice cognitive dissonance: ignore this person has even existed, continue to work upon your skills, master them, and go hunt for the juicy fishes.
