Default MTT strategy question

We've played through the first break of a tournament and due to some up and down play by myself, I was still stuck at the original starting stack of about 3,000 chips.

Blinds are 200.400 with a 25-chip ante.

A player in MP with about 4,000 chips pushes allin.

I look down at 88 in the small blind.

Call or fold?

I'm gonna fold. I figure if the other guy went all in he probably has me beat. I'm gonna wait for a better hand.

I would probably fold at this point in time if my tournament life was at stake.. Unless of course i had a read on my opponent on the way they had been playing.. Sometimes 88 is good in this type of position but you are always going to be at risk of yr opponent having a bigger pair or overcards

I would have folded that hand. With higer chip stack I would have called. He either had AK-AJ or low pocket pair. When short stacked, these hands are worth to try. Either double or nothing. If you folded, i think you made a good move.

I guess I define shortstacked differently than others. I considered myself shorstacked here. Of the 42 players left, I was in the bottom 20 percent of chips and I had less than 10BB.

I called, the BB called. BB had A2, OR had A9. River was a 9 to knock me out. i'm OK with my play, but I'm looking to improve so this is definitely something I will give more consideration to in future situations.
