Default Does anybody play this poker?

Long before TH took off, we used (and still do) play poker games that are different in style to TH 7stud or omaha.

You take out 2s,3s,4s out of the deck and games include 2 pair aces to open, full house to win, straight to open straight to win, 3 of a kind to open full house to win... Five players only.

Anybody know this or played this before?

hehe alright, and keep in mind this is what everybody on this side of the planet used to play before texas holdem. Many still play it as it is more fun then holdem and it is less luck oriented. Yes you can get bad beat and it is commen, but nothing like TH.

Anyways you need 5 players for this to be enjoyable, 4 is very little and 5 is max. Can be played as 3 if your having fun. But sessions are 5 players. You take out 2,3.4s out of the deck. doing so remember ppl make good hands easier especially when you are giving them 5 cards and they use 2 on the table and then get to change 2 cards.

most famous game is "2 pair aces to open full house to win"

1- each player is given 3 cards first and you have 2 open cards on the table. According to whats on the table and the 3 cards you first make a round of betting.

2- 2 more cards are dealt and you look for somebody that has "2pair aces" and above using the either of the two cards on the table and his 5 cards.

3- he opens with a bet, or for free

4- a maximum of two cards are changed. to improve the hand

5- betting round

6- 3 hidden cards are openned underneath the two cards already open

7- betting round

8- winner with best hand provided there is a "fullhouse to win".

example:

5 players minimum chip on the table is $1 max is $50. Position say first one to act.

My first 3 cards - J A 5 - the table has J and 9.
I hit $2 on the first 3 cards because they are good I have jack and A and only need a J or A to open.

2 plays call the rest fold. One has A96.

2 more cards are dealt my hand is JJA58
I have trips I can open as they are higher then "2 pair aces to win"

I hit $7 (pot size becase my full house is easy to make with JJJ)

first player folds second player all-ins me with AA96K. See he has 2 pair aces and to him he needs an ace to make a fullhouse to win. So he makes it very expensive for me.

I call.

I change 58 cards and get 7T so my hand is now JJA7T. the guy changes 2 cards two and he has AA9Q5.

The three lower cards are revealed and now you have
J 9
7 A 8

You can use these cards as 7J, AJ, A9, A8.

So I have made my full house JJJAA, but he has made his fullhouse too with AAA99.

he wins.

This is one game and there are plenty of variations, but generally they are "something to open, something to win" strategy.

I think its not that popular because its more complex then Texas holdem.
