Default Read books and take notes

Players can always learn more if they want to be a better poker player. Keep notes on what works and doesn’t work for you, and eventually you will come up with a style of play that works uniquely for you and improves your game. Please see our list of Top Poker Books if you want to see some good selections.

Very few people will ever succeed in tough games without reading the books, and the ones who do will often pay a far greater price then those who are students of the game.
Example: Without chapter 5 of Holdem for Advanced players I’d be clueless how to make a profit playing short handed ring games, I might have gone broke trying. As soon as I read the book, I understood and put what I learned to use. I now make a killing in these games, realizing that if I raise every hand preflop and just keep betting against certain players I’ll make a profit every session. Not against all players, but I used to be one of the players who would lose big to a player who did this, now since I’ve spotted my own weakness and made adjustments I can pick on this weakness when I find other players to have.
If you want to move up in stakes and play tough games, you’re wasting a TON of money not reading the books, IMHO.

I have ordered HoH I & II - just hoping to fix some errors in my game play and strategy that I know are there, but are difficult to find (in a personal style sense). I take notes on certain players.......especially loose agressives...they are the biggest challenge for me at the moment.

Apart from that you need to know what is going on around you and play to the table and don't be afraid of any of them.
