Default Just a "story"

I sit in a Carbon cash table (Yellowstone NLHE .1/.25) as every day with the maximum: $25, and after a while I won two good hands and go up to about $82.

After about 10 minutes with few action I got JJ in the SB. Only limp an aggresive player from United Arab Emirates and I choose do slow play and just call the BB (another 15c), the BB player checks.
Flop comes 688 and everybody check.
Turn: J (the dreamed card for me), but I still choose slow play, and checked, because the aggresive player, when you make a bet in the river he almost always do a raise.
Everybody check after the turn too.
River: 7 (didn't remember if was a 7, but was a card low than a J).

I made a .75 bet, praying for a raise from the aggresive player (he had $25).
And works! He made a raise about $3.25 and I pushed him to allin.
After press the button and seeing that he called I was thinking... "another $25! What a great day is today!"

But... is a good day, yes, but not so great like I was thinking. He was holding 88 and beat me with a nice quad.

I learned my lesson today, even an aggresive player can play in the slow way holding a better hand than you. Don't be gready.

Great illustration there. Often times, we get so caught up in our hands that we lose focus on our opponent's potential hands. It is not that shocking that the guy would limp with 8s in that spot. It just shows how you can be patient and take down a monster pot. This guy not showing life until the river is the classic way to slowplay a monster hand.

Come on man, it doesn't matter if you were looking at that 9 on the turn, you were not folding quads...

And in a NL event, the other guy wouldn't fold the second nuts hand even if you push allin there.

i don't care how you play that hand luzipher the same result will happen every time.

if you raise, you are getting called preflop by 88.

if you lead out at the flop, he is going to slow play and just call.

then the turn comes the j and you are going to go broke.

I have noticed that aggressive players will sometimes slow play when they have a monster hand. It's not easy to anticipate what another player is holding. If it was, I would be a pro.

Sounds like you played it well, but sometimes you just can't beat the cards.

What, so next time you hit the nut full house you're going to be more careful of the quads?

C'mon man, you made the right play.

And it's not unusual for a loose aggressive player (i think they were called backward players in the early days so ..) to slowplay a monster - who wouldn't, given the right scenario?

No, but when I sent the allin maybe the right move was a reraise. If he make a mistake and just call, I could lost less money, and if he sent an allin to me of course I would have paid.
My allin only can be called with three or four hands, and one of them beated me. Wasn't a tourney, was a cash table. You don't call 20 dollars in a table .1/.25 against a tight player (I think this is the image he have of me) with two pairs.
The reraise was the right move, with the same result in this scenario.
This is what I learned.

PS: He isn't loose aggressive, is tight aggressive, making big raises when he "read" a week bet from his opponent.
