You didn't give us enough information. What type of freeroll? One from a forum or one from a site. I won't play in site freerolls as there are just too many players. Bodog has two big freerolls each day. However, they also have 2,000 to 4,000 players. If you are as good as the top ten per cent of players that means you have 200 to 400 equally skilled players. Now you need to have the best luck to go with your skill.
The best freerolls to play in are the ones that are put on my forums. They normally have a low player field and it's not that hard to get in the money, not first or second place but still in the money.
This is how I look at a freeroll. What is the prize pool? How many players are there? I divide the prize pool by the number of players. If the amount is less than fifty cents, I won't play in it. I don't want to play for three or four hours and win twenty-five cents.
that's all well and good, but there are also private freerolls out there that have 1000 players as well.
as for trying to win .25, some people are trying to build a bankroll from nothing. so to them, every .25 helps.
i recommend trying the insomniac freerollls at betus on the weekend. they start at 3 a.m. est and have 300 or so registered players. at least half don't play. they just sit out.
Yeah pirate I thought I was smart when one night I couldn't sleep and figured there would be no one in the 5:15 a.m. freeroll at poker.com. Wow! I was wrong. The maximum number of players, 1500, signed up and I felt like a complete idiot. Even worse was I finished 23rd and only the top ten got paid! Ouch!!
you want to know how to win freerolls?? dont play good poker cause you will always loose. you have to play like the biggest freakin donkey alive and then you wll win one. good luck
There are just soooo many players in freerolls now adays. Usually ranging from 100-5000 players. To be honest, 95% are all fish or not that great at poker. You might think oh who cares, well........fish get lucky ALOT. It is hard to dodge soooo many bad beats. Like AA vs J3, The AA might lose, you never know. Especially when its like AA, raises HUGE preflop, and you get 5 callers. flop K103, if 2 people before you go allin.....idk what to tell you, you played the hand right, but the fish get lucky. So, with sooo many players and bad beats, it is very hard to win a freeroll.
Some freeroll are easier than others, when there is 100 players it's easier than when there are 1000 .. I play only freeroll with few players and big earnings, or freeroll with nice community and friends, but not for my bankroll. Poker is a game too
i like the kind of tourneys that everyone knows everyone like a home game tounrey and everything with conversation kind makes playin less intense and u relax more.
i find i have the exact opposite problem. i do fairly well in free rolls. i've never won one but i place often and have even made the final a few times. for me bc of the fact that most people are so loose in free rolls its easier to get the money in the pot when i have the nutts. in real money games however i'm not as good at drawing people out bc they play so tight for the most part. so heres to practice makes perfect im a strong believer that the more you play the better you get!!
tight tight tight, that is my answer to you for the first hour anyways, after teh first hour there seems to be less shananingans. Do not bluff, patience is the key, brbr gotta bluff this hand all in!
i have won 3 freerolls on the merge network in the past few years.
1) $100 omaha freeroll (now extinct) 1,000 players
2) $50 horse freeroll (currently running) 1,500 players
3) $1k comp point freeroll (runs daily) averages about 500 players +
i play freerolls everyday. i have better results in the non holdem games. i think it takes a lot of folding and lotta luck. sometimes i don't start playing until 10 min later.
let the donks clear out. keep at it, you will win one of these days.
