Default stop, read & deep breath

right - I'm not going to get involved in personal slanging matches

one thing above all else that makes this forum a nicer place than others is that I will not allow it to decend into personal name calling etc

and anyone bringing the tone of the forum down is as likely to get banned / warnings as anyone breaking any of OUR other rules

I've made my opinions clear on the password issue before

Password POSTERS are the source of the problem -

anyone posting our passwords is 100% not tollerated and will be banned

if I see people who are members here posting either OUR passwords or OTHER SITES passwords then I WILL ban them - thats an easily provable "crime"

but

Password USERS fall into 3 categories - which are not neccessarily mutually exclusive but IMHO are very different from password posters.

1) people who use other forums passwords which they get from a site(s) that shouldnt post them ... but DONT use our passwords or join our site (partly because they are warned not to use our passwords unless they are a legitimate member and get the password correctly)

2) people who use our passwords and other forums passwords they get from a site(s) that shouldnt post them ... They use OUR passwords but DONT join the site

3) people who use our passwords and other forums passwords they get from a site(s) that shouldnt pot them ... They use OUR passwords and THEN JOIN the site after the event and / or post 10+ to make themselves semi legit

The key point here is that the only people that members of the forum are able to beat up on or get angry with in the forum are "reformed" or "recovering" password using offenders ... I can tell you now that the percentage of password users who will try to sneak into games and NEVER join is higher than the odd new members who join and try to go straight

so I WILL NOT tollerate other members having a go at them ... its like beating up one person because you've caught them for a crime that was committed by them and 99 others you havent caught ... it serves NO purpose making a personally focussed attack all it does do is make the forum look less friendly and drags us down to the level of other forums.

The way to do this is to get the message out that we do not tollerate private password posting / sharing / using etc - but generally - lets not make this personal

I can tell the forum now - that the people I've caught in the past sharing / posting our passwords were for all intents and purposes "model" members - the reality was they were sneaky mofo's who would swear blind they were whiter than white ... if on that basis I went round suspecting everyone with a decent amount of posts and longer terms members that wouldn't be a very fair way to sort things out.

As I mentioned before we had 2 non members / members with insufficent posts to have got the passwords (directly from a member) they then cashed in games of ours - they posted to try and make themselves "appear" legit but fundamentally offered zero co-operation on giving me the name of the member who gave them the password ... that earnt them a ban etc

but when the OP has stated clearly that while he may have USED OTHER sites passwords BUT NEVER posted ours or any others ... I am not about to ban him when we still have a nest of shameless password posters in our own member base.

Look at it like this - which is the worse crime ...

mugging and old lady or picking up a $10 note thats on the floor ?

I dont have 100% proof of anything in this - and having wasted 2 days last week pointing fingers in the wrong direction with the other password issue I am not about to go off on another witch hunt and end up with egg on my face ... or put up with name calling etc which affects the wider forum more than it needs to

cheers scrawnybob

Well for those of us who play in the PRIVATE tournies and have had to deal with the thieves which I'm sure is most of us can agree that a forum like that is harmful to all of us, and being a member of it just supports that kind of business.

I know I'm new here but this rubs me the wrong way. You might as well say it's ok to steal PRIVATE password cause everyone is doing it... You obviously have no idea what goes into getting these games for members of each forum, whether it be a PRIVATE buyin or a PRIVATE freeroll. What I find funny about that PRIVATE password theft forum is they'll get mad at each other for posting a PRIVATE freeroll password after someone else had posted it. Honor amongst thieves?

IMHO if you're caught giving out PRIVATE passwords, or using PRIVATE passwords that you did not earn properly you should be banned, which is what I do in any forum I have a hand in running.

Just my two cents.

Default I'll try again

hi all

I'll try again - maybe if I post twice - some of it might get read

I dont want to get all dictatorial but please read admin posts - there made for a reason

Please DO NOT make things personal - you, your etc or specifically rant at one person for what is a general crime

if your making a general point then fine if you want to add a rant about password sharers etc ...

eg "I think all password sharers should be shot then charged with the crime and locked up for a very long time"

BUT NOT

"I think all password sharers like you should be shot then charged with the crime, your sort etc should be locked up for a very long time etc"

I cant see what part of my previous post didnt make it clear - there are 1000's of password sharers, a few join the site and to some degree confess to previous "crimes" ... taking it out on them is not fair its just venting for the sake of it ... and it makes the forum worse not better

The people you really should all be far more worried about is the sneaky snake in the grasses who have been members here for a long time / post etc etc who only do this to look genuine while giving out our passwords or posting our passwords in places many wont even know about or find

I am making this "ruling" for a reason ... because the last time members felt they could go off on a half assed crusade was when I ended up having to deal with members getting picked on / personally vented at and naming and shaming of "poor" 10 post members for the passwords ...

what was the net result ?

the poor posters didnt give a sh*t but an awful lot of good new members who were gradually posting decent enough posts and wanting to be active ... stopped because we looked like a bunch of nasty, stuck up elitists who didnt want anyone else in the "club"

so the result of alot of bitching and moaning on the forum achieved what ?

the poor posters still came and posted junk ... but we lost alot of enthusiasm from the active and becoming active members ...

members criticising other members made other good members go elsewhere or stop posting because they were scared to post something that would have been fine but they we too scared to because they thought they might get flamed by the self appointed posting police

so if people are not able to think things through and act in the overall interests of the forum ... then I WILL have to make it clear what is and isnt acceptable

This is NOT some elite country club, that's why I dont have mods & everyone starts out equal and having x posts or being here y time doesnt change the rules - no flaming or getting personal on criticisms

if members have usable information / proof of problems like password sharing / posting etc that need addressing or see posts / links etc that they think are problematic ...

do NOT try to deal with it on the forum ... shoot me a PM or report the post
(I've just banned 3 people following info from members PMing me just in the last couple of days) - This is better dealt with off the forum / off the record and no need for airing dirty laundry for the sake of it

that way it gets as sorted as it's going to get ... and it avoids offending / puting off 100's of readers / members by making the forum look unfriendly and cleaky

cheers scrawnybob

I have been warned for posting the passwords to my own tournaments on several forums. I have to say that I thanked the forum admins once we cleared the misunderstandings. They would not want me giving out their passwords, and as such they were stopping me from posting someone else's passwords. I just happened to be the someone else in question

My feeling are that you should be able to belong to as many forums as you have time to spend at them. You should also be able to play at those forums games, no big deal. That's about it. You should get banned from a forum if you give that forum's passwords out. Some of the poker sites, Carbon, will banned you from their site, if you are caught playing in a forums games and you are not a member. I've been in some forum games where certain players are asked their forum names. Some answer, some ignore the request, and some leave. I never use a stolen password. It just not worth it. If I have to have a game, there's Sit&Goes and ring games.
