only time to raise is when the blinds are big and ur one of the last to act. otherwise limp in and try to hit a set. if no set on flop fold to any bet.
Hmm, thats interesting. There are several ways to play quackers obviously. A big factor is the type of game you're playing. Cash game u slow play it and try and hit ur set as previously suggested. This play will allow you to sneak up on an opponent, trip twos being a tough read. Let's say you're involved in a tourney. Early on in a freeroll I may push with my twos. This being in a VERY large freeroll only where its really nice to get up early or get goin. However, if you are in a smaller tournament and you feel less frivolous about your early exit then you know your opponents. Limp or come in for a small raise and hope you hit that set. Be careful. I think a huge mistake that is made is being married to trips. If you hit your trips don't put on your blinders to 4 card flush draws or up and down straights. You have a good hand, not a great hand. Good luck

i was waiting to see some other posters here before i replied as i was curious what the feeling was on these low pairs.
here are a few thoughts:
to me, low PP are hands that are of the very few that you can make a case for raising, limping or folding preflop.
if you are playing in EP and you KNOW you are getting reraised by an uber-aggressive player in LP, limp/reraising isn't out of the question. you are happy to take the pot down with that move and if you flop a 2, he's never going to put you on 22. if you limp, call, its more likely he can figure out the set (though 90 percent won't).
it's an automatic fold to a raise and a reraise if the action is in front of you unless you are supershort in a tournament.
I agree with the limp in and hope for the set strategy. Although if I am last to act or just about last and no other action is on the hand I may bet double or 4 times the BB. Late, like really late in a tournament if I have more chip than every who has yet to act, I may go all in with a low Pocket pair.
what is the appropriate way to play pocket 2's, pre flop raise, or all-in and does it depend on your chip size or not, what do you think.
I don't play them unless I'm in late position as I will not call a raise with them. You are only going to improve 1 out of 8 times so you don't want many players in the pot with you as they may also have a pocket pair and also hits trips. Then you have big trouble.
The most important thing when considering whether to play small PP's, especially 22, is what kind of game you're in. If its a cash game, raise. The whole idea behind that is trying to make the pot bigger in case you hit your set. If you don't hit it, fold your cards and rebuy up to the max buy in.
If you're in a tournament, unless its been folded to you in LP, fold them. You're 50/50 at best, and if they've even got 33, you're a huge dog.
i like to limp in with pocket pairs that are 8 or lower...sometimes i'll limp with higher ones too, but almost always with the lower ones...u can call a small raise, up to 2-3 times the blind if your stack can handle it, but u have to have the control to fold after the flop if you are bet into and didnt catch your set
