Default percentages???

hey guys im new to the whole poker scene. i got into it bc ive always been a bit of a math geek and liked the idea of being able to help yourself with quick math. ive been working on my speed with knowing the pot odds, but for some reason cant seem to get my mind around the percentages. i got interested in this by seeing someone on a W.S.O.P. bracelet event go all in. he then would say something like o.k. im a 54% favorite. then after the flop hit the other guy he says oooo now im at what, 26%?? sure enough both times he was almost dead on. though i think that either one(pot odds or percentages) will do. i still would like to have as much extra info as possible. so what im asking is if one of you big dogs out there would pleeeeaasee give me a basic run down of what exactly percentages are and how they work. any responses would help. oh, and also, im a bit of a flash card guy so i was wondering if anyone has any tips or exercises i can use to improve my speed on getting the correct pot odds and/or percentages??

ooooookkkkkkkk i just realized the only way to know the percentages is to know what the other guy has. so unless you're all in you don't know, and we see it on t.v. bc we see all the cards.(unless i'm wrong in witch case i feel more foolish than when i decided to write this lolol) i am still interested in any tips on reading the pot odds a little faster. many thx
