Good points here. Yeah, I think people just need to under stand while it is still Holdem (or whatever game it is) re-buys and freeze-outs are totally different games. Each has their own unique optimal strategy.

as im a female member i sometimes play the $1 ladies only game ran by poker.com
now cos its only $1 u see alot of crazy hands till the break
cos its only $! ppl call with anything
once the rebuys end u actually end up playing a good game
and i find that alot in re-buy games
untill the break not worth calling an hand lol
i went in with AA in a rebuy game
someone called with q8 off suit
no queen out on flop and no 8
she goes all in
i had to call lol
turn was q river was an 8
u tell me that isnt insane????
but i took the beat and did a rebuy then took all her chips back off her hahaha
cos i knew how she played then

Not by any means to be argumentative, but just to note a lot of these players are no idiots and chose to play differently in a rebuy syle.
I strongly suggest players who are not willing to take a couple risks and potentially rebuy and add on totaling a min of 6x the original buy to avoid the rebuy tournaments.
If you don't want to allocate a min of 6 buys then simply stick to freeze outs which will suit your style much better.

Hi all,

I'm glad that this thread has started some good critical opinion, that's what I believe a forum should be. Help and freindly critical discussion.

I am still playing in GP re-buy tourney's and have yet to fail to lose 'on the bubble' or above. I'm not rich by the way, sometimes its just getting money back!

I still play tight before the re-buy and choose the add-on at the break except this one occasion a couple of days ago:-

It was a $3000 GP tourney with 274 entered. Within forty minutes I had only accumilated an extra 200 chips thereaboputs and entered the flop with K rags. The flop was K K 6.

I checked and the nest person checked,
The turn was a 4 and I put in a small bet to increase the win value, He raised and I called.
The river was 2 and I checked expecting a sizeable bet. He went all in so I put the rest of my chips in with a smile. I did consider the hidden boat, but decided to risk it.

He had hit his straight (quite well hidden wouldn't you agree).

I did re-buy on that occasion and a couple of hands later I got my chips back.
By the first break I had close on 9000 chips and did not add-on as I was in 8th position.

I went on to finish 12th. With an outlay of $10 and a return of $35 I was quite happy. That took 3 hrs and so $5 per hour does not sound much, but if you finish in the top 10 it is well worth playing (winner recieves $980).

In what I've been looking at recently I do feel that 'money-added' and low buy-in GP w/th re-buy/Add-on tournaments will give you the best value for you're bank roll in the long run.

And finally....

If anyone is subscribed to 'pokerplayer' magazine, I sent the original post I made to them in an e-mail and it got printed in their letters section. They have done an article about re-buy survival and but have not read it yet. They also added a final line to my original text which reads 'Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated'. mmmmm. The only advice I usually listen to is from you guys and girls.

I will send them some more and try to get this forum advertised in the letter (might get edited out as they did chop up my original text and made additions!).

Tace care and GL all,

Dom

Hey All,

I have recently been shopping around for good value GP freezout and Re-buy tournaments.

I looked at the buy in and worked oot the percentage price to win value and the average field and payout structure. I will keep updating as I find new info.

The best ones are actually on the Titan/ betfred/ poker770 etc sites. Here are the tourney ranks. The times are British times. RB (Re-buy) FO (FreezeOut). % cost is at buy-in wothout re-buys and Add-ons. If you average 1re-buy and the add on times the figure by three ($1buy-in= .1% and add-on makes it .2% and the add-on makes it .3%).

Rank Time Buy-in RB/FO GP %cost Field Places Info

1 Midday $1 RB $1000 .1 300+ 50+
2 20.30 $10 RB $8000 .12
3= 21.00 $5 RB $3500 .14
3= 15.00 $5 RB $3500 .14 200+ 30+
4= 06.00 $3 RB $1500 .2
4= 22.00 $10 RB $5000 .2
4= 23.00 $5 RB $2500 .2 Turbo
5= 03.00 $5 RB $2250 .22
5= 01.00 $10 RB $4500 .22
6 14.00 $3 FO $1250 .24 300+ 50+
7= 20.00 $5 FO $2000 .25
7= 18.00 $5 FO $2000 .25
8= 08.00 $5 RB $1500 .3 Turbo
8= 04.00 $15 RB $4500 .3
9= 19.00 $10 FO $3000 .33

I have some more, but I need to sleep. lol. The Ones you will see me in will be the 5am/ 6am if i'm up in time, The midday one. A warning about that one, it plays a bit like a freeroll in the early stages. The 2/3 in the afternoon FO/RB. The 8.30/9pm FO/RB. Possibly the 10/11pm or the 1am RB's.

If you are a good player and don't use the Re-buys and asdd-ons, then these tourneys show really good value.

I will add more as I find out more and sleep rested.

Dom
