Negreanu v Raymer

hi guys

think there was talk a while ago about the suit that Greg Raymer and few other players want to bring against WPT for using / planning to use their likeness in a DVD game

On the face of it seemed fair that they should get paid for this but looking into it more given that all the players seem to have been signing releases etc to appear on WPT maybe its not so clear cut

anyway apparently Raymer has spoken out against Daniel Negreanu who said they shouldn't be sueing WPT and biting the hand that feeds them

It's been said that Raymer dissed Daniel while playing online suggesting he was either stupid or a sock puppet of the WPT

I dont have a full handle on the case - as im not a lawyer but seeing a bit more of the issues around it I can see exactly what Daniel is getting at

As I have to deal with copyright issues and clients / big companies running over the little man (ie me & other photographers) I'd tended towards thinking Raymer etc had a point

but this all seems to be a bit conterproductive as Negreanu pointed out - it's not going to do a whole lot to to help the industry and there is no doubt the WPT has created the whole cult of celebrity in Poker and helped online poker explode

Guess there is alot to be said for the fact that 7 hasnt turned into 70+ pro's complaining

Plus I've always rather liked Daniel as a player and a straight talking bloke and been around alot longer than Raymer

Mind you there are a few people who havent got so many great words for Negreanu so I guess like every sport / competitive thing - it's not going to be some happy love in all the time
