Default Interesting hand -- looking for feedback

    (1) SB posted 2000
    (2) BB posted 4000 -- This is me and I have 22,000+ left after posting.
    (3) Fold
    (4) Player calls 4000 -- Has approximately 26,000 left after calling.
    (5) Fold
    (6) Fold
    (7) Fold
    (8) Fold
    (9) Player raises all-in to 9345 -- This is the dealer.
    (10) SB folds

It is my turn to act and I am holding KJ. This table has been using position heavily especially when there are limpers in the pot. Dealer could very easily be a bluff or real hand. Since he has the button, he has another orbit, so probably has something.

There is almost 20,000 in pot and I need to call 5345. So 3.5 to 1 or so, and I am figuring Dealer has A anything or PP. I put the chipper that limped on medium PP.

I decide to just call and see the flop for 5345.
Other limper call also for 5345.

Pot has a little over 30,000 in it now.

    FLOP: T A 8

I assume I am behind the dealer now that he hit his A, but guessing my mid PP read on person behind me is correct. I decide to check and see what he/she does.

Bets 4000 into empty side pot.

MY DECISION: 4000 more for a chance at 34,000 but need Q or Club. I figure I have 12 outs and do not want to play into 2nd bettor so I just call.

    Main pot: 30,000
    Side pot: 8,000

    TURN: 9

Okay 3 more potential outs with the open-ended straight draw. However, both 8 and 9 are on the table, so 2nd bettor may have set now.

My outs: 7 clubs (T and 9 boat possibly), 4 queens, 4 7s so 15 outs approx 30% chance to hit.

MY DECISION: I have 13,000 left at this point and 38,000 in pot. So I am getting almost 3 to 1 with about a 2.33 to 1 chance to win (or even better if they do not have set).

MY MISTAKE: I do not push here, instead I check hoping that my last call scares them and they give last card for free. However with my read, I am stuck. If they hit set they are betting into me, and if they didn't they still might since I checked two streets. If they hit and I push I get called, but if I push and they missed I may get side pot right there.

    I check.
They put me all-in and I call (realizing my mistake too late).

    River: 3.

    Dealer: 99
    Second bettor: 55
Me: A high with a busted straight and flush draw and done.

Yet another learning experience, but curious what other people think. I was close on reads, and overall with the play of the hand would a push at the turn have been a bad play? Was the initial call a bad play?

    As always all observations welcomed.

Oh it was like level 20 or something in a tournament. No I am not playing those stakes ROFL.

Very good question, Ihavequestions. I think you analysed it just about right. Your only hope of winning the hand, apart from getting lucky on the river, was a big push on the turn. That might well have scared your opponent away. Holding just a pair of fives with all those overcards on the board should have made him fold. But some people never go away - no matter what the size of the bet.

    I sort of agree.

The problem here is with the flop and the turn, you are putting your money in on draws and the money you were putting in was quite significant to your stack. If you considered the other player still in the hand to be weak you have got to make a move on them when you're sure. They could CLEARLY see you were weak. So they put a move on you. The original call was ok, but when considering whether or not to call any bet you've got to think about what you and the other person will do after the next card. You were right, there was A LOT of chips in that pot, this combined with you two's shrinking stacks was cause for caution. Good post, but unfortunately that's what consistently drawing will get you... you dont always hit the A 8 flush to take out Aces.
