Default Bluff that blew up in my face.

Looking at it after the fact, I think to myself, "What the **** was I thinking?"

    Bodog - $0.05 NL - Holdem - 9 players
    UTG: $2.18
    UTG+1: $7.23
    MP: $8.98
    MP+1: $5.86
    LP: $5.24
    CO: $6.97
    BTN: $5.60
    SB: $4.84
    Hero (BB): $5.00
SB posts SB $0.02, Hero posts BB $0.05
    Pre Flop: ($0.07) Hero has 4c 4d
fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, BTN raises to $0.10, fold, Hero calls $0.05
    Flop: ($0.22, 2 players) 6c 8d 8c
Hero bets $0.15, BTN raises to $0.30, Hero raises to $0.45, BTN calls $0.15
    Turn: ($1.12, 2 players) Qd
Hero bets $1.12, BTN calls $1.12
    River: ($3.36, 2 players) 5d
Hero bets $3.33 and is all-in, BTN calls $3.33
BTN shows 9s 8s (Three of a Kind, Eights) (PreFlop 53%, Flop 89%, Turn 95%)
Hero shows 4c 4d (Two Pair, Eights and Fours) (PreFlop 47%, Flop 11%, Turn 5%)
    BTN wins $9.52

I just thought at the time, he doesn't have an 8. He will believe I do though because I was the blind... I put the guy on A-Q or some high cards. Boy what a mistake. I think I almost got him to fold too, because his clock ran almost all the way out before he finally called. I just never thought he had an 8, until I saw the ugly truth staring at me from my computer monitor. In hindsight, I should have just check/folded the flop. It is what I have done 1000 times when my low PP doesn't hit the flop. But I do bluff successfully sometimes. It is a part of poker I think. Input? Comments? Any of you get caught with your pants down like this? Oh well. At least it was a cheap lesson.

They way i read it he re-raised you on the flop ? You should have read something from that.I think the 2 clubs were keeping me at bay with him just calling. Then another diamond on the turn making 2 flush draws. He probably had you on a flush draw of clubs but the river completed the diamond flush draw instead. If it was a club on the river it would have been a better board to bluff. But he called $1.15 was it on the Turn so you had to believe he was Pot committed and would call. You need a Big scare card for a good bluff like the river completing a posssible str8 or flush to push some-one off top pair but i doubt you could Push him off tripp 8,s.

I led out with a probe on flop, the he raised minimum, I reraised. Sometimes, I just do stupid things. I have bluffed big pots before, and I was trying to do it again when I should have just folded on the flop. All the while, I just thought maybe HE was on clubs. I never put him on an 8. Oh well, thanks for the advice. This is enough to slow me down bluffing for a while. Peace.

With it being folded all the way round to the button and they've min raised i dont think there are many hands you should be folding from the BB
Personally with a PP i would have re-raised,
put in a pot sized bet on the flop to get them to define their hand and if they are still calling i would be slowing down and re-evaluating my hand on the turn

As far as getting caught with your pants down now and again thats just part of the game you gott put up with if you are gonna bluff

I been caught with my pants down more than enough and been spanked for good measure too
Its always better to celebrate the good days than brood over the bad days

Lol. Yup it happens, and I think most poker players bluff sometimes (I feel it is just part of the game). Anyways, thanx for the input. Peace.

I honestly hate bluffing even though i occasionally will do it in proper position and timing but i feel like it's a screwed up way to lose chips you could of still had, nah mean ?

Playing out of position is a drag to begin with (but obv. an ez call here pre... maybe even good for a raise.. < because then you will have taken the initiative & will be able to fire at the flop (if villain calls pre)).
I think I almost got him to fold too
If you had a monster would you be 'trying to get him to fold'? Probably not likely. I'm not suggesting you'd check it either... just sayin'.. you want your bluff to 'fit the story' you're trying to sell.

As played (calling pre).. I'm NEVER folding this flop. Personally I would 'check/call' as I'm expecting villain to lead out on this flop with all of his AIR here too. (see.. if I had position, I could 'call' villain's cbet then if they check & give up on the turn I could try to take it away from them. Being out of position... diff. story). I might check/call flop.. > bet turn here (but if villain plays back at me or even calls I'm going to try to get to showdown as cheaply as possible). I might check/call flop, check/fold turn (it's player dependant though). Can't say I'd take the line you've chosen here (in haste I suppose) on the flop here. The betting is kinda odd to be honest (it's lookin' like a Limit Holdem game)... another 15cents is NEVER going to get villain to fold (if this is our intention).. & if we did have the set... would we click back another minraise here? (I wouldn't). I'd probably check/call flop > bet turn (just as I might be doing if I"m bluffing here).

So PO when it blew up did you have dynamite dust all over your face

(Drum crash) DAn ABs attempt at humor in case anyone was wondering

I very rarely get away with bluffing,, either no one believes me and just bets me out anyways, or they are holding the card Im wanting to bluff with, or I bet too low for anyone to care if Im bluffing anyways or I bet too high and lose all my customers cause they think I have it then. REally tricky thing this bluff, seems easy enough, but once I get caught then Im like FUCK what now, keep betting on something I dont have, I aint saying I dont try to bluff Im just saying sometimes I feeli like Im just floating in the air
