Thread: chase or not¿? what would u do?

  1. #1

Default chase or not¿? what would u do?

Typically, I chase when I have good pot odds/implied odds, and fold otherwise. I'm not a fan of putting a lot of money in on a flush draw when it's not nut and you don't stand to win a lot. However, this situation is unique. I was getting good pot odds (Like 3:1 ish) I feel that I made the right play considering the pot odds. What do you think?

Lets say blinds are 25-50 and your in the big blind. Someone raises to 100 and gets 1 caller sb folds so when it comes to you there is now 275 in the pot. So for you to see the flop it will cost you 50 more to win 275 or 5.5-1 odds on your money. (275 divided by 50)

After analysing the hand, and if I'm correct you had pot odds of 4.5-1 preflop and 3-1 after the flop (good to go), so I think you played the hand correctly. The only thing I would be scared of is a higher flush (do you know the other players' playing styles?)

    Nice pot to take down.

    Default the benefit of position

    hi

I think you made the right call / ok call and you hit

in terms of pot odds I think this is great hand illustrating the massive benefit of postion - specifically late postion

I think pedrov would be the first to point out that without being in late position you wouldnt have had the odds to call because there wouldnt yet have been the calls in to sweeten the pot and improve the pot odds

being able to see 2 (I think) other hands call the all-in before you act gives you a massive amount of options

you can justify calling on a draw because the odds are there ... in a cash game this is pretty much the only concern ... that and conversely getting your money in when your ahead

or if this was a tournament hand see that you had the odds to chase the draw (and certainly the implied odds that the others were then comitted for more future chips also) or could if you were in certain position see that others had good hands too and it may in some situations be a hand to leave alone

looks like a great hand example where the actual and implied odds give you plenty of reasons to call ... bet any money the table all bitched about donkey draw etc though

without taking into account the dramatic change in your odds between when the betting started and when it came to you to act

    cheers scrawnybob

Many many times I have had my mouse on the fold button to see two or even three other players put their chips in the pot and increase the pot odds. I have wished that I had folded sometimes, but other times with Ace rag suited you have good odds to call to see the flop with 3 or 4 other players putting their chips in.

I don't think it was a bad call, im not a big chaser but with the preflop raiser raiseing post flop also you can about be sure he had an ace. He bet enough to scare you out of the hand but it was going to be a race for the pot so thats one of these in the middle calls not a bad call but not a wonderful call. just my thoughts on it though

I agree with everyone so far, that you had plenty of reasons to call. However, lets say Dallas had enough money to put you all-in and you didn't hit the spade on the turn, would you have made the call or taken the loss and folded.

I know there have been plenty of times where we're the winner/victom of chasing. It's all part of the game.

I can see why the trip 8's pushed. Don't understand why A5 pushed and not really sure why you called a preflop raise with J2 suited or not even if you hit the J on the flop your kicker sucked. Overall the turn gave you what you needed and you did have good odds to call the post flop bet.

In the long run making calls like that you lose money overall. taking down a big pot doesn't always equal the loss
