Default (1)beating river rats and (2)protecting a strong hand

I wrote the following article for a friend who was new to poker last year
He had been suffering from alot of beats..usually caused by nasty river rats..grrrr

Did i give him good advice?
Did i leave any important bits out in these two scenario's?
Some feedback would be greatly appreciated

    -----------------------------

WAYS TO STOP THE RIVER RUNTS!
GETTING RID OF THEM ON THE FLOP

    bigbad bob 4000 SB
    barney 2300 BB
    #HERO# 2000
    betty 700

In both situations there are 4 people left....bob is in small blind and barney the big, blinds are 200/400, so we are in first position to act
    --------------
<1> We get a great hand here....so great infact that only a river rat could possibly beat it!
Take yer pick, something like AK or JJ
First instinct is too push the chips allin....however..if a nasty rat decides to call then we could be in trouble!

JUST CALL the 400..but with the strong intention of going all in when the flop hits..no matter what!(maybe 3/4 of the time)
If we do go allin here, that would be a 1600 bet and the potential river rat will usually HAVE TO FOLD his hand if the flop doesnt look good for him
This strategy also leaves a backdoor to escape from if two players go allin before you/the flop is the same three suits/or an ace flops (and you have something like JJ)

TWO BRUCIE BONUS' to this particular hand
1>just calling the 400 in first position will look quite scary to the rest of the table
2>when the flop comes you will be last to act(unless betty called) and this gives you great position to either decide to call a bet...or more hopefully>go all in when they both check!
    --------------------
    <2>this next example would be more applicable to a bigger table, but we'll use the same stats and positions as above;
We get KQ of hearts, and we call 400 in first position, betty and bob call, barney checks his BB
The flop hits us pretty good..something like 6h 10h Kd or maybe Kd Qc 4h

Gut instinct is to check/trap...however this could allow a rat to develop a straight or hit something weird like a 7 on the river(and he happens to be holding 77 in this hand....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)

ALWAYS BET if bob and barney check to you after the flop
ALWAYS RAISE if bob or barney bet

    --------------------------------
<3> in both these cases(after the flop) and at many other times its important to bet/raise at least 3 times the big blind....just doubling the raise mightnt be enough to shake him off
If he does decide to call and go for a miracle flop or river, he'll be paying dear on most occasions ;o]

Good stuff. It is very important to make the chasers pay to see those cards. Just hitting the bet button is not enough to get them to fold their 2 outer.. 4x times blinds should end the chase a lot more often. Remember that it is better to win a small pot than to lose a huge pot on the river. This is important to all of you guys that always slow play. You want to check-raise those kings, but the other guy doesn't bet or you just double his bet then he hits an ace on the river and the potential pot is lost.

sometimes u got to play ur opponents. for instance if they always bet when its checked to you, then theres no real reason to bet. cuz u can just reraise him when he does his normal bet. but if he doesnt u need to bet

    Default Nice advice

Firstly, its really nice of you to take the time to help out a friend of yours and get him on his feet in the poker world . Can be very daunting when your new and just play most hands even if you understand all of the rules.

I found the advice very good, especially to a new player thats finding his/her way. It is very important to get those rats to have to spend there not so hard earned money to see the cards. They will pretty much call anything to see there straight or flush draws hit at the end and you gotta make sure they are paying a hell of a lot for that search.

    Keep up the good work.
