I've decided that we will make it even simpler ...
whoever enters / takes part in the quiz and makes a legitimate stab at the answers will be eligible to play in a monthly game which will be played early in the following month
GyspyTea who is our quizmaster extrordinaire is keeping an eye on the entries and marking all the class on the quizzes but I'll look through that months entries and then send out invites to those players
the monthly 4kingpoker brain games will be at Carbon Poker so open to all members who enter the previous months quiz including US members
in order to avoid freeroll password issues - no late / new members who just drop in answers will be eligible ... and obviously we hope our more established members are sensible enough to to give out passwords - it will be pretty obvious
cheers scrawnybob

Its too hard to call any hands let alone call what cards u r going to keep. The best anwser is to say I do not know what to play. if I were here to tell u what i should do or play it would seem like work so i just play for fun
[quote=wixx;41669]I am not paying for any analysis.
Oh... but maybe you are??... each time you sit down at the poker table. Just pokin' a bit of fun at yet. I didn't try out the donktest but have seen it posted elsewhere before. I think anytime someone can get an outside opinion on their play is a great thing. I'll check my stats. on occassion (not just in one particular game, but over a longer stretch at a similiar type of game), ie. my VP$IP, preflop and postflop aggression, etc. I also like to discuss different hand histories amongst friends, listening to their input about it as it might be something I had overlooked or something I could be open to learning about. Two heads are always better than one. Most of my poker buds play with a similiar approach to the game as well,... we're all TAGs but play hands differently in different situations. It's good to hear their opinions or any actually (depending upon the source that is). You could probably get some 'free' input though, but to spend a few bucks for an analysis doesn't seem like such a bad idea really. In fact one could be spending that price many times over by repeating the same mistakes on the tables.
In the past year I've probably spent over $200 on poker books (that doesn't include the dozen or more I've gotten from libraries) and would have to say that every penny has been well spent. The ones I've purchased were mostly not just random purchases but were books I'd either read previously but knew I wanted a copy of them or were ones highly recommended to me by others. I just bought another one this week and here it is 'the shit' when it comes to online mtt play at advanced levels (written by PearlJammed, Rizen & Apestyles,.. 3 of the top online poker pros out there right now). I can't wait to get it, lol. Have a few more on my 'to get list' too and will probably HAVE to get them before the end of the month, lol.
I guess what I'm getting at is,.. a few bucks spent here and there in an effort to improve one's game can be peanuts in comparison to the dividends it could pay back to you,.. even in the short run.
GL on the tables!!
opinions are fine, but reading books...is understanding top players strategy....yes you may be able to learn some of these things..but you have yet to organize them in a fashion where you can view them as a whole, in a given understanding.
Nothing replaces book knowledge.....Caro's Book of Tells.....may have corny pictures but when you understand how he sees humans as reactions you are not gonna find that view better defined than in that book.
I've read about 6 poker books in my career, and I think they should be like Bibles....you should read them everyday....
I ritual of mine is to read 4hrs every time I bubble, or close to bubble......as a teaching tool.
Actual play can only teach you so much, since you need your focus to play..you cannot learn as much as if you were...stopping a hand..analyzing its play...and talking, and subjectively depicting its strengths and weaknesses. figuring out what is proper betting for each individual situation, based on logic...
getting outside "PERCEPTIONS" is everything in poker.....
each person is different, and the pro's are are pro's for a reason....read their books!

Well said Tom! You can also get Mike Caro's stuff online these days - 'Mike Caro University',.. offers free videos (although I do have his book sitting right here, lol).
Favourite books of mine,... all of Harrintons especially Vol.3 in his first series (alot of people skip getting Vol.3 'The Workbook' but it excellent,.. but not recommended if a person hasn't gone over 1 & 2 thoroughly).
Also depends on what type of game preference you have,.. mine is NLHE tournament play.
Other favs. Harrington's Cash Game Series, Phil Gordon's books, and ...... um.. well.. come on, I can't give it all away here, lol.
If you're wanting to get better (and not bitter) for SURE pick up a copy of Harrington on Holdem Vol.1, you will definitely not regret it one bit. If you can get yourself familiarized with it (and Vol.2) I believe you will be far ahead of most online poker players. 90% aren't making money online and although 'making money' isn't my main motivation for playing poker by any means, it's nice to be winning it as opposed to losing it.
