The sooner people start to understand what variance is, the sooner all the "online poker is rigged" threads you see in most forums will dry up. In it's most basic terminology, variance means you cannot win all the time, vis a vie you cannot lose all the time either.
A variance is the difference between an actual result and an expected result. The process by which the total difference between standard and actual results is analysed is known as variance analysis. When actual results are better than the expected results, we have a favourable variance (F). If, on the other hand, actual results are worse than expected results, we have an adverse (A). In other words, just because you hold the best two cards before the community cards are dealt, does not mean you are bound to win.
