Tough Bluffs
Good article. It's true that the feeling you get when you pull off a big bluff is a really good one. To take down a large pot and make a player with better cards fold is no mean achievement.
But it's also a very risky strategy. It involves putting in a big bet with a weak hand and if you get called you are going to lose a significant amount of cash or chips. So it's not something to be taken lightly.
I think one of the best tips on bluffing is to ask yourself 'What kind of story am I trying to tell in this situation and is it consistent with the rest of my play?'
Whatever kind of smart move you try to pull you should always bear in mind that it will come to nothing if your opponent is holding a good hand and he's not scared by the flop or the size of your bet.
