Hi can anyone advise on HORSE Strategy
I've just played in a couple of HORSE games and really enjoyed them but i've gone in cold. I know nothing other than the necessary. A really good giggle was not realising the changeover had happened - that hand made me look like a right plank. Thank heavens it was a freeroll. Anyway i didn't do too bad, the first time i got through half the field and the second time from 2400 i made it to 513 but like i say most importantly i really enjoyed myself. I've been wanting to play something other than holdem online for a while and i think HORSE is it.
Can any of you give me some advice on strategy for the whole game of HORSE so i can try to really compete and also if you can recommend any books. I feel there must be a strategy involved for the whole game as opposed to just the individual games. ie how to play at the start sf a HORSE tourney/how to best get throught to ITM and the play after. The weakest part of my game seems to be Razz. Thank You in advance for any input.

Ooops. Apologies for posting in wrong place.
A definite spot the newbie post.
I posted this request in the strategy thread and upon reading other forums spotted the HORSE thread. Hope you'll forgive my error.

Hi and welcome,
Before being able to masterise huge HORSE tournaments, you should probably give a try to 8/16 players Sngs, which are a great way to learn the game for as cheap as $1.25 on FTP or PS, for example. It will lead you to improve your game in each variety, learn how to deal with bubble time and being patient.
One other thing you should try is our monthly HORSE game at Tilt, as the 4KP crowd is really tuff to deal with.

Thank You all
Some great responses here and i'm most grateful.I will most definitely be reading the articles acrawnybob - i'm looking forward to doing so.And thank you also for the warm welcome.
TCOB firstly when are the monthly 4king HORSE tournaments and do i need passwords to enter if so how do i get the passwords. I'd love to have a game with y'all. There's nothing like tough competition to gauge your own play and learn some new skills.
xxmommaxx - those crazy chasing calling stations are a killer al right. They drive me nuts. Today one of them chased me out of a game after calling my KK on the bb with 106o(from mid position) during a holdem round. with all cards J or under by the river i was pretty committed and he hit the magical 2 pairs on the river.
. He was therefore matching my every bet on the strength of firstly poor starting cards and on a pair of 6'. sThe thing that really gets me is they think it's funny. I sometimes wonder whether these people even care about the money they put on a game because they just strike me as ego crazed gamblers addicted to the buzz of winning with the worst odds.I know poker is considered to be only between 5 & 10% skill but for me the skill is part of the enjoyment. Everyday i strive to improve my game and i wonder what these people want .Don't worry i'm not so interested that i let it affect my play. Really these folk are just a different problem to overcome just like getting bad cards is a problem.
One thing i'm severely lacking in is making the most of position but it seems that no matter where i am on the table i get reraised and pushed to the limits. However i'm going to endeavour to improve in my positional play.
A further question anyone recommend any good strategy books for each game in HORSE?
I'll just share a bit of good news whilst I had a very good game of HORSE today. Two weeks ago i stepped up limits in the SnGs both in mixed and holdem. Today i moved up a notch again into the $5 games getting a win under my belt immediately. That sure felt good.
What seems to have happened since taking up the mixed games just a few weeks ago is that they are having a positive affect on my holdem game.
Thank you again everyone for your input - i look forward to tearing up the felt more suitably armed in future.
Take care all,and gl both on and off the felt

To play in our games, no matter if it's HORSE or not, you'll need 10 posts, check out the rules thread for further infos. Our HORSE game usually takes place on first sunday of the month, which means that next one will occur in November. It's a $1.50 BI, with $50 added.
I had quite the same issue with a pp K's in Stud/Hi, the guy call my raise PF, on 4th street, 5th street and finally caught 2 pair on 7th to beat my K's.
The good part of the story is that he ended out the money while i finish 3rd and ITM.

If your weak at Razz just play a whole Razz tournament for as little as a $1.10 buy-in or even free chips.Play all the different of Legs of Horse to become well rounded.Only then will you be successful in Horse.

Great comments on learning HORSE. Never hurts to hear what others are thinking and how to apply it to the different games. I know they weren't aimed at me but they will help nevertheless. Thanks....
