Ah... found it! It was 48 rebuys in a $1,000 rebuy WSOP Event in 2006. I believe he cashed & profitted but obviously not too huge of ROI in that one, ha ha ha.

LMAO. I bet he was smiling the whole time too. My fav player by far. I just love watching him...and listening, he loves to talk it up.
Okay, that was in fact 'not a fact', I got that info. off of another forum & then found it to be incorrect while reading Phil Gordon's Little Green Book for the 5th time (yes I've read that book 5 times now, lol and have 2copies of it).
It was actually in the WSOP 2004 $1,000 rebuy. There were a total of 538 entrants with 534 rebuys & 262 add-ons. "Daniel Negreanu went broke a total of 27 times". He placed 3rd for $101,000. It was also thought that Daniel may have had a large 'last longer bet' with someone.
i remember watching the coverage of that rebuy tourny and wondering why anyone would rebuy that many times, a last longer bet would make a lot of sense. i thought it was later than 2004 though, a year after he broke the rebuy record i thought they trimmed down the amount of rebuy tournys at the wsop, i would have guessed around 06 or 07 but i'm sure your right.
Terminal, I have to agree with petey. I do not like rebuys. i only enter them with the understanding that i will rebuy a max of 3 times. I try to make it for an hour because the addon gets you more chips than a rebuy. I usually do not have the patience
to last the hour. I will be tempted with my AK or KK and you have 4 callers hanging
on you and one of them pulls the 2pr out of their arse every time.
Good to see you again playing the thurs Bodog tourney.

If you're playing them with intentions of rebuying 3x but then if I'm hearing you right, it sounds as if you're raising & getting multi-callers preflop? (w KK, etc.). I'd strongly suggest reading up on rebuy strategy (from someone who's good, ie. a poker coach) OR watch a rebuy MTT training video. Because of the nature (& strategy) of a rebuy, you'd easily be able to just ship it allin with your KK preflop (even if it seems like a RIDICULOUSLY BIG overshove).. or open raise it up 10x...and you'll still in all likelihood get looked up by hands as weak as mid pr >> 88, 99, TT. The first time I watched a good player's rebuy training vid. I was kinda shocked but at the same time it brought it all into focus (ie. if he had a hand like AQs, sometimes even AJs, TT+ and there was one raiser ahead of him he'd just SHIP IT, (player read dependent of course).
The object isn't to make it to the add-on... the object is to get a BIGSTACK by the time the rebuy period is finished so that you'll have a decent stack & will be competitive in a deespstacked tournament (<< which is really all a rebuy is... it's a deepstack tournament that starts after the rebuy period). There is a means behind the rebuy period madness though & the best players are trying to take full advantage of it.

YAH PLAYFUL AGREES SOMEWHAT...DO THE REBUYS RITE AT THE START...IF YAH CAN HOLD ON TO YOUR CHIPS TILL THE ADDON PERIOD ..DO SO BECAUSE THE ADDON IS THE MUCH BETTER VALUE USUALLY...USUALLY WHEN PLAYFUL DOES THIS ..SHE GOES DEEP IN THE TOURNEY
