Rebuy Strategy Question
Just started playing small rebuy tourneys. Noticed that a some players rebuy immediately and go all in hand after hand. It didn't seem to work well.
One guy rebought 4 times in 10 minutes. Wouldn't they be better off buying into a larger tourney?
I try to play well and only rebuy if I lose with a bad beat and I always add on.
What do you guys think is the best strategy for small rebuys?

Aside for not playing them??? I hate small rebuys. It's like rebuying into a freeroll. The few times I have played them I wait and try to get one of the morons to double me up, letting him pay for my rebuy instead of me. On cake where you can wait to reg till an hour into it I will wait till the last min or 2 and reg and rebuy which leaves me close enough to the chip avg to play. Aside from the I stay far far away.
If I want to do a small R&A I would rather just transfer someone $5-10 kick myself in the nuts and call it a day and save some time.DISTURBED INC.

Yeah..I've seen this same thing on many occasions.
For achieving a huge stack...I reckon it has a success rate of about 25%
(A nice advantage of playing this way - it effects your table image massively, giving you a chance to crush with premium hands soon after)
Thats a good rule of yours - only rebuy if you get a badbeat. I shall be adopting it thyself
One strategy I normally use about ten minutes before addon is to play 25-50% more agressively...especially against the medium stacks. These players will often be playing alot more cagey than everyone else.

But if they go to a larger tourney then cant go allin 4 times and feel the rush, LOL
A lot of them do get big stacks this way, but next hand lose it again.
Some time back i use to play in poker 4ever little rebuys and the dollar dazzler in Carbon, usually only get the addon if need it but like Sp comment first hour is like freerolls so patience, postflop play or wait for good hands to double up, i do not like to play those any more.
Best way to play this games is to bring your rabbit´s foot and pray to poker gods

I really can't stand playing in rebuy tournies, because i hate to work out a good hand and the strategy to eliminate some knucklehead and then they just keep rebuying, and like has beeen mentioned allready people seem to really donk it up because they know, hey i can just rebuy again and again and again

The only re-buys i play are sats for bigger tourneys. I tend to play tight only raising premium hands and completing the blinds, if cheap enough, then towards the end of the rebuy period if i have a decent stack i will call down a lot wider to a push from someone looking who is looking to double up
If its me who is short and looking to double up i will keep my eye on the clock and push in the last orbit before the re-buy period is over then if i dont win the hand i can re-buy and i always use the add-on
Not too keen on the multi-rebuying but if they wanna throw their money away like that all its doing is building a bigger prize pool for everyone else
I would like to see a $win/$loss% for someone who plays that way i'm sure it would be more loss than winLast edited by Ramster; 02-03-2010 at 02:59 PM.

No one likes rebuys lol but don't you like it that when you get ITM in a 3$ rebuy, you win 12- 15$ instead of 3.7$?
Ok, the main thing imo in a rebuy - you need to have a big enough bankroll for that tournament. You can't go and play a 3$ rebuy with a 30$ BR. You need at least 100buyins. That's the whole purpose of the rebuys, get a big stack early so you can try and cruise (read bully) to the final table. The first hour of play it's like this, some people will shove a certain range of hands because they know what they are doing and they need to do that in order to get the big stack fast.
So,if you don't have a rebuy strategy OR you can't exploit the ppl who do, don't play a Rebuy!!Last edited by kingmotan; 02-03-2010 at 03:31 PM.

I've actually watched a bunch of Poker Training videos on rebuy MTTs and prior to watching my first one a couple years ago, I always thought a rebuy was basically a donkfest (I had no clue).
There's actually alot more going on than what appears to be madness (there's a means to the madness). Typically in rebuys you don't get moved in the first hour (unless you have a bunch of 1-bullet players (folks playing them like a freezeout) so even if you donk off your stack, the chips are staying on the table so when you rebuy there is now more chips for the taking on your table (in other words >> you've lost them.. BUT they're not completely gone).
A rebuy tournament is basically a deepstack tournament that starts once the rebuy period is over. One needs to have a decent stack if they hope to be competitive after the rebuy period (or if they hope to have a playable stack with an M of '20'+).
I've watched a few rebuy MTT videos on poker training sites and have learned alot about the strategy involved in them. They're actually pretty decent tourneys and favour those who are familiar with playing deepstacked poker, whereas most of the tournaments online are pretty fast-structured games (ie. the 1500chip tourneys don't leave much room for gettng involved in more than a couple of hands in early levels.... not much forgiveness there and only have implied odds to set-mine & play SC's in the first couple of levels, the double stack tournaments are a bit better (but once the antes kick in the avg. stack is nothing more than a re-steal-size stack so in many instances, if you're open-raising you'll often be wanting to do so with a hand strong enough to be able to get involved with any shorter stacks who might be playing back at ya).
There's one documented case of a rebuy tournament that Daniel Negreanu played where he rebought an insane amount of times (I forget how many times... I'll look it up).Brad Booth - > "Like a fight... it's not how you start, it's how you finish"
