    Default Sophistication and Tendency Leveled

How would you (generally) level opponents on sophistication of play? This is an incredibly general questions which is sure to elicit some incredibly general responses... but take your time and really think about it. You can choose to address SNG's, MTT's or Ring game. But I'd like to see some lists which can give players a view of the landscape. I also realize this may be site dependent so be specific if you must, just don't post "its too general". I'd also like some examples on each level of what you mean... for instance:

    Single table SNG's
< $10- Players tend to push all in with marginal hands before necessary, there are usually 3-4 TAG players at each table. etc etc.
    $10-$20- Blah Blah etc.

I will submit some of my own observations at a later date.
    Thanks,
    Stix

I will Post "its too general" imo. You have been around long enough Lombard to know better. I know you do.The game has become Lame. There isn,t much sophistication to NLH imo honestly.Players playing the ABC poker game.I don,t think the word sophistication was the word you were going for? Maybe Imagination in a game that is becoming Stale.I mean I could design a good BOT i think that would win 65% by playing the ABC,s of poker.I really don,t know what your going for here but some more replies may widen the range of conceptions.

I don't think its too vague to give an opinion. If you've been playing a certain level for a long enough time you start to see patterns in your opponents play. I'd like to see if anyone has an in depth theory into other opponents play on any given level. This would be invaluable to players who are looking to move up in stakes to new levels or to beginners trying to get into the lowest levels. You could say for instance:

I've been playin 2c/4c on Carbon for a while these are the generalized "types" of players I see:

Double ups: Guys/girls who sit down and are looking to quickly double up for whatever reason. They push the action and try and take down pots when they hit anything. They'll push over even if it is a gross overbet. BLAH BLAH To combat these players you should....

    Profile #2:etc.

No this is NOT A YES OR NO QUESTION. I don't expect every member of this forum to have a legit answer to this. However, the purpose of this question is two fold.
    a. To help people looking to get into new games possibly new networks (merge, bodog etc.) or people starting to play poker in general.
    b. To help forum members start to critically examine their opponents in more systematic ways, which will eventually improve their own game.

So... if you were looking for a thread to drop a quick post to you may proceed to "Would you ever fold Aces Pre-Flop?" and leave this thread alone. Thank you.

I don't think I understand the question correctly so my answer may not answer anything lol but here is how I tag players at Pokerstars ring. I have tags on about 500 players and more detailed notes on about 100 of them. This is how I categorize them

    #fish
    #donk
    #bad reg
    #decent reg
    #good reg
    #nit

I now see that you mean sophistication of play... Well, where I play things are pretty straight forward so I pretty much now how each individual will act in pot based on the note I have on them.. Meh I still don't know what you mean Stix

Great start. To complete would you please tell us what $ level you play on Pstars. Also would like some descriptions of what makes a fish a fish and not a donk. What do you see in these from these specific players that puts them into these categories? Does a decent reg play tight most of the time then screw up sometimes by bluffing out of position or what?? I think you got a great start, just flush it out fo me to get an A! hahaha

I use a hud. So that makes things a whole lot easier.
I used to play a lot of tables (20+) so I didn't have time to see tendencies and other stuff.
So when I see someone playing 50/0 (that's Vp$ip / pre flop raise) I put a yellow (fish) note on him because he's obviously a huge passive calling station. So that makes a fish.
The difference between regs is how I relate myself to them.
Also I use tableratings when I want to put a note on a reg. Basically someone becomes a reg when I notice I have 300+ hands with them. I will then look them up and see how many hands they have played, and their bb/100; that's usually very important to me.
I have a few "good" and a few "bad" regs, most of them are decent.
I'm kinda taking a break now because I have other priorities but I used to do some session reviews , and analyzing one reg at a time and it was pretty cool after that because now I can play some of them w/out looking at my cards. So even the "good" regs are very exploitable. But then again this is 2-10nl. We have ballers here that play 200NL maybe they should give some input
Btw I can't wait to start again in a few months, stars has now 100-250bb tables. I couldn't ask for something better.
