Have you ever put out a big raise preflop/flop ended up with the nuts on the river and did not bet because you KNEW you wouldn't get anything out of villain and you wanted to see his/her hand?

Oh yea plenty of times! And at the end you have Ak. Nothing till the river and just to find out it cost you $$$ and to find out he was holding J8, and hit the 8 on the river. Wow now what would you do?either hit your computer with a baseball bat, or just clam down and think this is jokerstars for you! So my advice don't spend your extra $ just to see what he is holding, unless it's worth it ! I have learned my self this! And still haven't learned anything
No I always bet the river with the nuts if it's been checked down. It can only help your image if they call and why waste the chance of increasing your stack. There's always other times to work out their card range rather than pass up more chips
My preffered game is to take down as many pots as possible without a show down. But don't take that as a fixed stratergy.

Ok sorry! I didn't read it right.
If I have the nutz, and I don't think he has anything, I'll at least put out a small bet and hope he tries to bluff raise me or if he hit the board at all, usually they at least call a small bet, so you still what he called with and at least get a little extra. Usually though, if I have the nutz, noone calls. Though yesterday, I slow played a big A (A J i think). I had pos. getting late in tourney, I had 2nd biggest stack. Flop was A A something. I checked it to river, then put out a close to pot size bet, and he tried to steal it, pushed allin (he was in 3rd at the tme) with nothin. I was a little concerned he had a better A but I couldnt fold and was shocked when he turned over nothin, sure he was shocked to see my A. Never works out that well usually, but I always try to get something when I have a great hand. Guess I'm not that great of a player when it comes to figuring other players hand ranges so checking to see what he has doesn't really benefit me that much.
i confess i do that a lot. there are actually still some players around not aware that you can do this. i actually had someone deny to me what they were holding. cause i play a lot of limit poker --that river bet isn't going to increase the pot that much--if i'm pretty sure what they have--they are going to have to pay to see mine though.
I,d make a minimum bet as well. If the player folds to a minimum bet you have your answer that he was holding nothing. If you bet too much you know you won,t get paid anything,

i don't feel checking down to get info. is the right play by any means. a value bet is the right play, i would be shocked to see a pro check down just to get information on his opponent. by checking down you are also giving your opponent free information on how you play your hand, that would negate any benefit on info. received imo.
