Just looking for some advice on what poker book would be best to buy as your first one to read.
I have read some posts about this and it seems that the HOH series has got good reviews along with Phil Gordons Little Green and Blue books.
I am going on holidays in a few weeks and want to get 1 or 2 to read while travelling.
What I want to know is, where would you reccommend I begin.
I have some Full Tilt Academy points so I am probably going to get the 2 Phil Gordon books and Colin Moshmans SNG strategy one too.
Excellent selection!!!
I've read over 50 poker books (easily) and the choices you've made here are the ones I would recommend.
You can also (usually) get books at your local library via 'inter-library book loan' (where I live you can pretty much get any book as long as copyright is more than 1yr. old). Personally I would go this route for the HOH books (1 & 2... I wouldn't bother with vol.3)
HOH is good reading but also a bit out-dated (I'd still recommend it though... it's a decent foundation to work from although I know you already have alot of experience).
BEST nlhe mtt books after reading the above are >> "Winning Poker Tournaments - One Hand At A Time' Vol.1 (& Vol.2.. < vol.2 is 'after the bubble bursts'... vol.1 is up to the bubble, 'trouble hands', over 200 HH's with authors describing their thinking process throughout (authors are Rizen, PearlJammer, Apestyles, & Matt Hilger.... aka Eric Lynch, Jon Turner & Jon Van Fleet). These two books are by far the best out there today (nothing else even comes close).
I've heard Shaw's SNG book is pretty good too (but haven't read it... might still buy it but only because I'm a poker book addict). Kill Everyone (Elky edition) is also supposed to be pretty good (although I've read mixed reviews about it... many saying it's excellent.. a few others (regs.) saying it's pretty basic.
