Thread: 5 BB's

  1. #1

    Default 5 BB's

I was recently playing when the blinds hit 500/1000. I had $5000 in chips. I was on the BB with J 8. Everyone checked. I flopped top pair and pushed all in. I was called by A J. I won the hand with 2pair. The fellow who called me preceded to ream me out calling me the proverbial "donk". I had to make my move if I wanted to stay in the tourney. With only 5 BB's I feel like I made the rite move. What do you guys and girls think? What would you have done? I am not the greatest poker player in the world but I'm no donk!!!!

Everyone checked? Either they called raised or folded, only BB can check preflop. Whatever, obviously you push at that point once you hit 2 pair, if not before. The "donk" was the A J for not raising preflop!

If you were deeperstacked & know that someone's cbetting a flop (not 'deepstacked'.. but deeper than 5bb's obv.).. I would check-raise allin. In this spot though if they've all limped in you've got less than a pot-sized bet in your stack. I'd be shoving here with J2o.
    Your friend's a crybaby.

Your right, everyone called and I checked is what I meant to say.

LOL. He's not my friend, just some disgruntled poker player who decided it would be cool to verbally assault me. But ty, I feel like I did the right thing there also.

Great example of people over using the name calling of Donk

There wasn't anything out of the norm with your play and far from being a donkey making a bad play. I am self titled The Donkey of Poker and I find it insulting someone called you a donk for your actions.

One thing you should note when someone calls you a donk even tho you know it was the right play, tells you they don't fully understand the game.
