Thread: Colluding at tournament table?

  1. #1

    Default Colluding at tournament table?

    Check this one out ...

Playing a $4.40 tournament, doing quite well when another player joins the table after being moved.

All going well, then an observer starts commenting in portuguese. Nobody else could really understand them, but the observer was talking to the new player who just sat down, discussing strategy and what action etc... was giving him his chances of winning and such.

Final straw ... the observer said roughly translated "Well he raised first, and check raised after. He must have a good one, but you can corner him" ... so hit the call moderator button, explaining the circumstances as requested.

Moderator comes, announces his arrival, and the promptly states "Just a friendly reminder, if you have any issues regarding the security of play, please proceed to email support using the Help - Contact support method in the main lobby. Thanks" and leaves?!?!?!

Have emailed support explaining, and the two people in question are now being investigated for collusion etc. But what kind of attitude is that for a moderator, are they only permitted to ban chat etc?

    Seriously! Gah!

Yeah, that was pretty cavalier for a Mod. I have to assume that his demeanor is that of a Mod who had not checked out all the facts as yet. Because he probably gets called a million times a day when not necessary, he is probably hesitant to make snap judgements until he has come up with all the facts.

    Or else it's just ridiculous!

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

We agree that these comments were inappropriate and violated PokerStars Card Room rule #20 which states:

“You may not make any chat comments which may affect the play of any hand or tournament, even if you are an observer. There are two exceptions to this rule:

    1. In cash game hands which are heads up (everyone else has folded, or the hand started with two players) the two players involved may chat as they wish. 2. In tournaments which are heads up (everyone else has been knocked out of the tournament, or the tournament started with two players), the two players involved may chat as they wish.”

Our complete set of Card Room Rules can be found here:

Poker Room Policies - Cardroom Rules at PokerStars.

Although many of our players are not aware of all proper poker rules and etiquette, this player has now been warned about this incident. We will take further action if the player breaches our rules again.

The help of vigilant players like yourself is vital in policing our site. We greatly appreciate your assistance in maintaining the integrity of our games.

If there is anything else we can help you with, please let us know.

Dont know about u but i would rather the chat did not exist at all as this kinda incident is innevitable. If u knew a player on a pokersite where everyone chatted in german u would chat to your friend in english and tell him what u know. Collusion is impossible to stamp out have u ever played live when FRIENDS dont even hide there softplay against each other i once watched a hand where a player had nut flush and opponent had k flush with no paired board or no str8 flush possibilities, both players hit on the flop and checked all the way through i was disgusted i said "Aunty ann, Mom thats sick to softplay like that put your chips back in the box and get out and dont be coming back for any future home games" followed by a spitting incident which i now regret.

Also altho a very different point why should pokersites tell everyone to talk english when they have players from all countries......Hence my initial point just stamp out chat altogether.

Yeah, that's pretty sick. I'd also like to see chat just removed altogether, FWIW. These feelings only strengthen as the only (and B&M, for that fact) poker world becomes more cosmopolitan.
