Thread: Can never beat a big stack.....

Default Can never beat a big stack.....

Ok, I just either have the worst luck ever, or there is something very sneaky going on.

Just busted from 7 tournaments in a row, when challenging a player with a stack bigger than mine. My play was perfect, i did nothing wrong, just got delivered some awful beats.

First table, sat in position, with big stack in front of me on small blind. I'm dealt K J, raise 4x BB and big stack calls. Heads up ....

Flop lays down J K K, flopped full boat, so raise and the guy shoves on me. I make the call thinking maybe he has a weak King. He shows KQo...
Very next card out of the deck, the queen to throw him a higher boat and I bust.

Next tournament, i'm mid position sitting with pocket Kings. I had very good table rep in this tournament through tight but aggressive play. I raise 5x BB and the big stack who dominates me 6 fold in chips raises enough to put me all in. I pondered if he has Aces or maybe AK, but with me holding two kings the chances of him holding a king are very slim. So I make the call, he shows 45 of diamonds. Heads up...

Flop lays K 4 4, blank on the turn, case 4 on the river :s

So next tournament, again i'm mid position, facing a min raise from big stack before me and i'm holding suited TJ, so make the call and limp in. One other in the pot as well as me and big stack.

Flop lays 8 7 9, flopped straight. Make a half pot raise, other opponent fold and big stack shoves. I call and he shows QQ. Gotchya I thought ... wrong

Turn throws Jack, river throws 10 to give him the higher straight WTF?!? Runner runner ffs.

Another tournament im dealt A 10, bigger stack makes a small raise and I call, all others fold. Heads up ...

Flop - K 10 A ... i make a raise big stack flat calls. Turn lays a blank, at which point the big stack shoves. I'm sat there thinking does he have the straight, has he just hit his set? Really couldnt fathom what hand he had, the guy i've never seen him over play mid pairs so couldnt put him on a set, and didnt suspect he had the QJ so made the call. He shows K 10. River lays, guess what ... a king and I bust yet again.

This just keeps going on and on and on. I've seen so many times multi-way all ins preflop, and it always seems that the biggest stack busts every one with either a low pair, or stupid connectors that hit his straight or flush. What the hell is with this?? Is it just me thats noticed this?

It's called variance (& am also assuming it's lower buyin tourney play).

As far as the conspiracy goes.... pretty sure there isn't one.

It probably is variance, but its happening far far too often to be correct under probability.

Literally busted yet again, dealt Kings, so raise it up pre, big stack flat calls all others fold.

Flop K 3 7. Idiot big stack raises enough to put me all in, so quick call and he shows A7.
Turn A, River A. I mean WTF??? How can it be put down to variance, when EVERY time without fail that i'm all in against an opponent with a bigger stack I loose. Its not my play technique before you debate that. Im just sick of flopping monster hands only for the big stack to ALWAYS turn / river out a better hand.

On a side note, a while ago I spotted a website that takes your hand history and converts into graphical format...anybody remember or know the web address?

    Cheers

The problem is we tend to remember the suckouts where we lose much more than when our hands hold up or we actually (wonder of wonders) suckout on someone else.

Big stacks also can afford to see a lot more hands so are going to hit more often.

    That's the one thanks matey

I know we do remember the beats more than the wins, but i honestly cannot remember one time over the past few weeks where i've been all-in against a big stack and actually come up trumps. The worst one that sticks in my mind for obvious reasons was being forced all in on the flop by a big stack while holding top pair and top kicker. The idiot had nothing but a backdoor straight, and runner runner'd it. Lemme get some hands posted up and show ya the sickness of some of them.

As i write this I just busted YET AGAIN against a big stack who was holding pocket dueces, i flopped a straight. He raised enough to put me all in, turn paired the board and river threw his money card the deuce. Makes me sick.

See the thing is yes fair enough I have sucked out, but to the best of my ability i cannot recall one occasion winning a hand against a big stack.

I can really understand if your were busted 7 tournies in the same day in with the best against the Big Stack and getting sukked out on every time testing your faith. It makes my theory mind go crazy too.I have always noted that the Big Stack almost always wins RACES even when horribly behind.I try not to get into it with the Big Stack tbh.Do they have the lucky selected seat to win beforehand or does the site want get the game moving towards the end and your little stack will slow the game down from finishing.
I see it happen rarely but it restores my faith when i see the smallest stack come back and win a tournament. It kind of eases my conspiracy theories. lol

    This ^

Runner runner bad beats are soul destroying but thankfully they won't happen too often.

Had one yesterday with KK, guy calls my preflop raise OOP with AQ and shoves a 10 hi flop, I call, turn Q, river Q.

Was a tough one to take esp. as I don't have much of a bankroll on Full Tilt anymore having withdrawn most of it.

You just have to try and not let it get to you and either take a break or move on to the next tournament.

Well, had quite a few busy weeks since my last post so havent played Poker in over two weeks.

Thought today I'd get back online and see how it goes. So, $4.40 SnG entered into.

Straight from the word go, there's one idiot who is just insisting on shoving pre with every conceivable hand. First hand he beats AK with 45off runner runner straight. Second hand he beats JJ with 86off for a flopped set of 8's.

So third hand into the tourney, i'm sitting pretty with Aces, he shoves pre. I make the call, and he turns 2 3 clubs. (Bearing in mind he's holding over 3x chips as me)

    Flop lays A 2 J, turn 2, river 2

Before I quit for a few weeks, i was getting more and more frustrated at the bad beats, and over the past few days started to think that maybe I had been overreacting and blowing it all out of proportion. But third hand into a new run and this?

Think i'm going to take a longer break out of poker now, and seriously consider if i'm still interested in investing time and money into a system which indicates a fixed and flawed shuffle system at every hand.
