Default Gus hansen

hi all,
just a geneal question interested to know your views on Gus Hansen he was on channell 4 in the uk lastnight and i find his play awful just constant aggrettion when he aint got a hand and then when he has got a hand he checks although he is a huge name and has won major tournies i would rank him from what i see as a donkey including the fact i find his reads completely ilogical.

Do u agree and when you see pro's play do you really think they are "GREAT" or just average players have won 1 major and i ASSUME if u get picked up by the likes of fulltilt / pokerstars uare freerolling for your career until pokerstars / fulltilt end your control.

Like i say assume i should imagine they are invited to tournies free of charge for promotion as apposes to actually qualifying / paying for entry.

The problem with TV poker you only see the hands the editor feels are intresting.

Gus is an aggresive player and will play almost any cards depending on his mood or read on the game. He was a succesful pro before being picked up by the internet sites.

His style of play is his alone I don't think anyone can copy him. If you want a better insite to him read his book about winning the Aussie millions where he details every hand he played and his thoughts about them. I found it an intresting read but is not a poker tutorial.

I like Hanson. he is impossible to read and just seeing him play you know that he will play anything and play it just so off the wall that your head will spin. I think of him like I do Dwan aka drrrr, very aggressive very loose and tough to get a read on. while this is normally the play you see from him I have seen him play super tight, kinda blew my mind. What is that saying about the fear of the unknown??? That sums up Hanson I think.

The high stakes players think at another level. That's why you can't understand them, and their plays. It's called metagame. Look into it.

dwan is the other one who sticks out like a saw thumb.

ne 1 see heads up challenge (not very specfic i know) first round he plays phil hellmuth they must have started with around 100 big blinds or i would assume in a heads up. it was 1st few hands mayb even the first dwan has pocket 10's i cant remember how the pre flop action went but they ended up allin.

Suprise if u end up allin pre flop with huge stacks to blinds ratio ur 10s are not in good shape if ur lucky you may be in a race against ak...Hellmuth had aces dwan hit a set and won...hellmuth kinda whined about it saying how do u go allin on that to which dwans reply is i have 10s heads up.......true 10s is way better than average but if u end up allin pre flop with big stacks its CLEAR u cannot be ahead. I do not think his style or hansens is clever they have a very bullyish approach to which all a player has to do is play top pair against them like it is the nuts even 2nd pair would be a HUGE favourite against them.

they are unplayable but u could argue thru naivity here is a hand i played recently as as sort of example

i am under the gun Blinds 200/400 i call JsJd player midway calls....small blind folds and big blind checks

i have around 9600 chips start of hand

flop = jc qh 7d - i have set

small blind bets 1200 - i call - other player calls

turn card = 9s

NOW i worry player has k 10 but think so what if he has my bad so i bet 4000 chips leaving me 4000 bhind....player midway calls..UH OH......small blind folds

river = 2d

i check this mayb stupid as only hand to worry about is k 10 and he will push allin neway if he has it....he does which puts me allin...............My thinking is he must have k 10 he must of when he called my bet on the turn....and he cannot be bluffing because he must think there is no way i can fold any hand (i have already clearly shown i have a hand) callin flop and betting turn and 60 percent of my stack has already gone in

i make it clear i think he has k 10 and do that old agonise even tho i am always gonna call.....i do the guy shows K 9 he called with a middle pin on flop and 3rd pair on the turn.

BUT IF WE HD MORE CHIPS BACK THIS GUY WOULD of pushed me off this hand allday bcos he is a genius!!! No bcos he is ridiculolusly lacking in any thinking ability and probably hasnt even remotely considered what hand i have yet i am giving him credit for been able to play.

MY POINT BEEN PLAYING IN A SIMPLE WAY LIKE BET...BET....BET CAN EASILY OUT DO A THINKING PLAYER....BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE THESE PLAYERS HAVE WORKED OUT UR LEVEL OF PLAY AND OUT DONE U THEY JUST HAVE A SIMPLE WAY OF PLAYING TO WHICH A GOOD PLAYER GIVES TO MUCH CREDIT TO.

Sorry meant to keep it short and cannot accept that i am just a bad player : )

You realy are judging these top players on TV evidence which is wrong.

Both are exceptional at maths and can work out the pot odds and hand odds almost instantly and are aggressive players so play more hands than most.

To compare there style with a donk online who calls your allin with middle pair is crazy.

I watched the program you mentioned after your first post as I'd recorded it and all told you saw about 40 minutes max of play in a tourement which probably lasted 4 or 5 hours. They played at least 130 hands if not more and maybe 15 to 20 were shown (Didn't count them).

Gus is known as the crazy dane and I think the show editor plays to this.

Also it was a winner to final and second to semi final which means they tend to push harder for a win.

Poker on TV is intresting to watch but few programs show you the real deal.

I stopped reading here. 10's against Ak is not a race. 100bb is not deep. You have no idea what you're talking about.
I'll play you HU if you want

Tom Dwan aka durrrr. Durrrr is Dwans Full tilt screen name, which is what made him famous and most people know him better as Drrrr than Dwan because of this. LOL I do like you explanation though.

OK about the 10's you must remember this is heads up not a full table, the odds preflop of pocket tens winning vs a unknown hand are just short of 75%, the fact that Hellmuth B***hed about it means nothing he knew Dwan played them well and the fact that Hellmuth had one of only 4 starting hands that had better odds than he is just bad luck. Any HU player will tell you that any pair is a very very strong starting hand Hu and will 99% of the time be more than happy to get as much money in as possible preflop with a pair as high as tens. Still say Hellmuth had Ak like you said, tens are still a favorite to ak off 56.55% vs the Ako 43.14%. people love to use the coinflip phrase but the is a clear advantage with the pair, and suited ak give like another 3% odds to the AK.

Now Hellmuth had the best hand we all know that win or lose but what I am saying is you can't blame Dwan for the super aggressive play with tens in a head up match. That is very standard play.

Another thing to look at before making judgments based on what the tv edits out, and you have to know that a lot of hands get edited out and players like hansen and Dwan get those nuts hands played on the air, not the hand they mucked big hands on good reads. Stats for Durrrr

durrrr -Full Tilt Poker

earnings - $4,542,742 -------- same as Phil Ivey.

hands played - 175,393

And he is way down the last few months Oct. 7th was his career high just short of 10 million.
